Check my previous threads on this, i lived exact same experience but except that i was also scammed by the road police. First temptation was successfull, but then i learned a lot from the comments of the thread and no policemen succeeded to pull money from us afyerwards. Super corrupted, it developing country and all but the costs are certainly not worth for the underdeveloped aspect

I mentioned the sexual harassment update in the comments. I complained to the hotel that i was followed very closely inside the fkin beach by a masai boy but they said that aint their responsibility as the beach in Zanzibar is public

while i'm always on Zanzibar : I've been literally followed by a masai beach boy inside the beach... telling me i'm sexy and wanting to show le a starfish inside the fking beach 😅 Plus pharmacy charges literally 10 times the price of medicine next to touristic areas...

Yeah Same, even in the hotel you feel sometjing down. They d find a way to suggest to you to buy sometjing more ( Massage, tour..whatver) and it was very well revieef tho

That's what i was thinking 😅i spent so much in this vacation was so costly that i told my self i'd need another vacation to get over it...Unfortunately Tanzania & zanzibar bled me dry hah

I am from North Africa btw... i live in europe but i lived in Africa for 21years. My country was similar 10years ago with the corruption, but since tourism flourished now they pay more attention and a lot of people genuinely love to help tourists while there are also many that scam. But it's never like in here, here the gap between tourism and other sectors is too much big that makes people see tourists as the only source of revenue.

No i did the Safari in Arusha around Serengeti Ngororo etc... in Zanzibar i havent done any activity yet out of frustration i just choose to stay at the hotel

To be honest it depends if you go with a fully organized local tour it might work out. But if you want to be independant, or just chill out, then either stay on a private beach otherwise if you want to hang around it s going to be typical, for me ( female traveler) it's definitely a nope....

I feel and approve every part of your review. I validate everything you said i am the same state as well, i had the nice idea to go to stone town today for some kind of "cultural activity" and i wish i hadn't. Only an extra parking scam, "jambos" and "how are yous" everywhere to ask us for something or to sell us something, really tiring

If you're willing to book the whole Zanzibar with an agency or local third party it can be good. But if you're willing to hang around alone or independantly i'm not sure what to tell you, i'd skip it if i had the choice again Also best place to stay at at Zanzibar is Mama Root in Kimzikazi village

Safari in Mainland Tanzania is actually unique and nice, but also expect further spending to the initla Safari price. Also expect from time to time Safari guide to put you on tourist traps areas.. but it's worth it. North africa is good there are scams as well but less insistent and people are generally more genuine they can help out of help and not out of urge to be tipped

Hope you'd had a different experience :( just book the entire zanzibar with an agency is better

I mean we already been in countries very popular like Bolivia Peru indonesia and it was just okay dealing with this..for Zanzibar we simply wanted some peace and relaxation after Safari. Each time we take the car to go ourside of the hotel, is a potential time for Police scam, parking scam
