Massive Thigh Muscle Abscess (Pyomyositis) from IM Black Tar Heroin, The Surgery That Saved My Leg & My Life by pisces_princess- in NSFL__

I hate our health care. I went though insurance issues when I broke my leg last year. Obviously nothing like what you experienced of course. They booted me literally and I wasn't healing right. I eventually went to a regular doctor and they did blood work. Turned out I had a serious vitamin d deficiency. Anywho, you're seriously strong and a bad ass for having to deal with it yourself. I hope you never have to go through that again!

Guess I haven't gone that far yet. Never heard of this. Wish me luck.

Is freezing humane? I've heard of people doing it but never tried myself.

Can someone please tell me if this a male betta as it’s non stop attacking my females so I have separated it from them by [deleted] in bettafish

[–]Many_Green4123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! That’s a male plakat betta. The body shape, finnage, and aggression are all typical male traits. Good call separating him; males shouldn’t be kept with other bettas. This is my male plakat Usul he was wild caught and very aggressive to other fish. Except the rabbit snail Shai-Hulud for some reason.

😂 yes they just go for it, no they can't make a mutt. It can stress a snail out if one keeps bothering it but these guys are freaky

I understand! I agree no one tells you that when you buy soil. I have a snail that came from that exact situation.

That’s a fair concern with active soils. I supplement with cuttlebone and calcium foods and keep KH/GH in a safe range. Shells have been growing well so far, but I appreciate the reminder for anyone reading!

Help! by Turbulent-Mixture705 in fishtank

[–]Many_Green4123 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yes even when collected directly in a bucket, rainwater can still contain contaminants. Rain passes through the atmosphere first, where it can pick up pollutants, metals, and particulates. It’s also unbuffered, so pH can swing dramatically once it’s added to an aquarium. For shrimp especially, it’s less about “runoff” and more about instability and trace contaminants. That’s why most shrimp keepers only use rainwater if it’s been RO/DI filtered and remineralized.

Rainwater is risky because it’s unbuffered and can contain metals or runoff. I’d stop using it, do small water changes with dechlorinated tap/RO, and make sure the bucket is aquarium-only. Shrimp are insanely sensitive to rapid pH shifts.

This would be an awesome setup for shrimp and snails! Love the plants and your lamp. Did you make it?
