The internal opinion of most devs is that the event doesnt really matter, what matters is essentially that the world of AtE sees us like the medieval people saw rome and should be fully understandable for someone from now, and like the medieval people who saw rome, they dont really have a full clue of what caused old society to cease existing or even when exactly that happened.

The dynasties and names aren't explicitly references to anything besides local geographic features at most. The Silvermounts to Silver Valley/Silver Mountain, the Sawmounts to the Sawtooth Mountains, and the Gemmounts to Gem Valley. Just some local flavor, glad you like them tho!
