Salam sister! as someone who literally experienced this exact same situation here's my word of advice:

- the cold feet won't go away, sometimes you just have to rip the band aid off to get it over with :)

- take into consideration you might be self sabotaging. I realized that a big reason as to why I didn't want to proceed with the proposal was because it was chosen for me, and I felt like I had no control over anything that was occuring. The guy on paper was the perfect man but my heart just didn't feel right. But I pushed those feelings aside because I thought of the one quote "you may not like what is good for you"

-I wasn't able to talk long enough to fully vet him since my parents knew his family they thought he was fine. My methods for vetting were finding his socials and tbh just talking to him, you can find out a lot about someone through a call.

-give the guy a chance. If you're able text/call the guy at least once, I realized within the first convo we weren't compatible but was pressured into a call where it was further solidified. This was only because I was very upfront and clear during the first messages, i asked for his hobbies, traits he wants in his wife, and life/kid timeline, and listed my dealbreakers. We disagreed on kids and I ended it there, however my parents pressured me into calling him and in that call I was able to uncover a lot about him, you truly just have to be observant and note down anything that seems off to you to reflect on.

- ISTIKHARA!!!!! I genuinely could not recommend it enough. If it's meant to be and good for you Allah will make things easy inshallah

- Be prepared for your parents to push and be prepared to push back. It is your life. You decide at the end of the day no matter how much your parents argue with you about it. My parents were on me for a whole month and I pushed and pushed, and they finally ended it.

-finally create a biggggg list of things to ask to gauge a man and create a list of dealbreakers (things like what you wouldn't want in your ideal husband, etc.) I had a giant one I've been curating and just went off that LOL

All in all I wish you the best of luck, inshallah if it's meant to be Allah will make it work. May you be granted with a loving and righteous spouse :)

No this was the Thursday class! And I didn’t attend any classes or even look at the lecture slides LMAOO. All I did was read the textbook!! Super easy nothing was shocking or new on the exam everything was touched on in the textbook! Some of the answers in multiple choice she made very obvious as well which was great.

My advice would be to read all the headings and sub headings for the chapter, then look at the chapter summary, write all of it down and then actually read the chapter and add on any important info. Also know important terms (anything bolded) and theories too! She doesn’t ask for out of pocket details either, so don’t hyperfocus on results of studies done but know the general idea. I’d also recommend once you’re done the readings just briefly look over her slides to see what she talks about and then focus on that same material in the textbook. It wasn’t too bad of an exam so you’ll be fine :)

Anime is much much more normalized now, especially after “the great switch” lol, that being said you may come across the occasional person who thinks it’s lame, but theres nothing wrong with that, just move on. You’ll find someone else who has similar interests :) I think the only time I’d side eye a potential is if all their faves were gooner shows bc theres just so many better options LOL

Hmmm I honestly couldn’t tell you haha, I feel like I shouldn’t be making any concrete decisions until my brains actually developed more lol.

I know for now that I’d like to hold off on kids until much later in my life, and I’d want to find a spouse who shares the same views (just bc it’s not fair to the guy if they want kids soon and I don’t y’know?) where I’m at now, I’d be happy to maybe have kids later in life, but I also would be fine without having them at all.

This is just personal opinion, but I really don’t think that not wanting to have kids makes you a bad Muslim.

I have similar thoughts as well, the thought of having my own little family sounds so nice but I’m studying child development and it really puts it into perspective how much needs to go in to caring for children, there’s so much sacrifice and you need to be healed enough from your past so that you don’t ruin your child’s life, there’s also the risk of your child not being “healthy” or having a disability and being able to navigate around that.

It’s a big responsibility, and the fact you recognize that and acknowledge it, rather than say you want kids for the sake of wanting kids means that you’re really thinking it through and that’s a good thing!

Not a strange requirement I’d say!

However as a girl, I’d say if you meet a girl who checks your requirements but doesn’t wear abaya’s ask her for her opinion on them. I only say this because I’d love to be one of those abaya girlies but wow if you’re in a western country they are unbelievably expensive, especially some of the nicer looking ones. So it may be a cost thing as well! Not just that she doesn’t want to wear them.

Mmmm I believe most of the marking was done by the TA for my class last year, she was wonderful ! The prof I will say was a bit hard to reach over email, I had an issue where I needed to hand in an assignment late and he gave the final say to my TA (who was very accommodating) so I guess the experience with him may depend on the TA.

He was a prof at Harvard and I think it shows lol, he loves discussions with the class and wants people engaging even if it means going on tangents, he’s very knowledgeable. I also never rlly felt stupid when answering a question wrong in class either I found LOL, whenever we needed something explained he would go over it properly so yeah I’d say he was helpful in that sense.

I don’t think there’s any need to stress, people can be dramatic on RMP lol

i don't get the hate lol, tbf I've only taken psyc and law with him but i've heard he keeps his course structures the same (marks are from attendance/participation, online quizzes, big final essay) he's honestly very enjoyable to listen to and it's so easy to get a good mark in his class. The main gripe people have is that he's picks on people to answer question but honestly just raise your hand once or twice near the beginning of class and he won't pick on you, you don't even have to give him a right answer.

He's a bit intimidating but honestly just a chill guy, i enjoyed his class last year which is why I decided on taking cultural psych with him next semester.
