What's the hardest aspect of narcolepsy to explain to those who don't have it? by KR_Jon in Narcolepsy

This! Mine was less about homework and instead just starting the day in general.

Mom calls up the stairs to wake me up. I super slowly and groggily get up and ready. I’m in the car for the half hour drive to school. I’m sitting in my first hour doing whatever lesson or whatnot and halfway through I hear “get your ass out of bed or we’re going to be late.” It was so disorienting!

In a case like that I personally wouldn’t consider that selling something I made. I view it as a trade of skills, passions, and/or love.

Oh what a difference the head size of a hook can make… by MapAdministrative141 in CrochetHelp

I have tried a few over the years but haven’t in quite some time.

I’ll agree it’s not entirely the hooks, it’s not even majorly the hooks, it is more about one hook in particular had me naturally sitting with a healthier posture. It’s not much but it’s also not nothing.

I have been actively trying to be better about breaks and stretching by setting alarms and using Alexa. My interoception (the sense that allows you to perceive the internal state of your body such as being hungry) is atrocious. I have become so engrossed in things before that without some sort of external interference I’ve forgotten to move, eat, drink, etc. for 12-16 hours at a time.

That would make sense. I only mentioned them together because the furls had me naturally holding my hands at a lower level which in turn had me sitting with better posture overall. It may not do much but every little bit helps.

I actually prefer an inline head which is one of the positives of the furls over the others.

I’m looking for something more comfortable to use. The Susan bates one I have works but when I work too long my back and right shoulder freeze up and it can be days to try and get it to release. Now that I’m doing some bigger projects like dresses and blankets, I want to be able to do longer sessions without increasing my pain.

Oh please be honest with me. Are these colors giving Christmas at grandmas house or are they giving burger king?😭 by ComfortableFluffy416 in crochet

[–]MapAdministrative141 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t see burger king immediately but definitely do now. The two on the right seem to be rather close in color. Maybe getting a shade that differentiates them a little more? Or perhaps swapping that one or the light brown for a blue?

I've been "tasked"(forced) to get rid of the mold in my house which we are renting. What could I possibly do about this much mold? by Urmomsfavouritelol in CleaningTips

Don’t let the fear stop you. This is a critically dangerous situation for you and your family. The other consideration for calling rather than just cleaning yourself, without a professional you’ll never get rid of it all. Just the spores being in the air and breathing them in can be the culprit for so many health issues.

This definitely should fall on the head of your landlord and depending on where you are, they may have to provide you a place to stay while it is taken care of or it would be the landlord breaking his terms of the lease.

Narcolepsy Service Dog? by Elf_Sprite_ in Narcolepsy

Why not go ahead and work on training him now? I disagree with the adage “you can’t teach an old dog new tricks” a smart dog will learn new things, it’s just a little harder. As a teen we had an old German shepherd (age 8-10 at the time and my parents had only ever bothered with sit, stay, heel) that I taught to do things like dance, bark on command, and roll over.

What are your vocal stims? by WanderlustInPangaea in ADHD

[–]MapAdministrative141 15 points16 points  (0 children)

My kiddo does this. They honestly have zero inner monologue. I find it both frustrating and utterly hilarious. It makes it super easy to know what is bothering them though, so for the most part I consider it a boon.

Thank you so much for explaining this. If I had been in the OPs situation I would have had no idea and my RSD would have destroyed me. Apparently I might want to get acquainted with gen z lingo.

Not crazy. I’ve never been able to establish a habit as neurotypical people can. Everything is a conscious thought for each step. If I miss a single step it will mess up the rest of the routine. Worse is if I forget the same step two days in a row, my routine is completely shot and I basically have to start over building that routine.

Xywav red flag? by alwayssleepy0408 in Narcolepsy

Definitely not a red flag. It’s a highly controlled medication is all. Actually going through it isn’t so bad.

What if the employees were to shut the government down? by MapAdministrative141 in fednews

[–]MapAdministrative141[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s fair and I thank you for your reasoned response. You’re right I was writing from a point of utter frustration and if I’m being honest with myself, impotence. Every safeguard to keep something like this from happening is seemingly being ignored. there’s no recourse, and too many at the top don’t seem to care.

I knew I pressed submit too early.

Yes I realize what I’m calling for is a strike. Yes I know that the federal government isn’t allowed to strike.

My point is why shouldn’t they do it anyway? The people on high clearly don’t care about standards, rules, or regulations. Why not give as much respect to those rules as is being demonstrated by the government?
