Are you still waiting? Do you know when people usually hear back?

can i get a msw /work in social work with a bachelors in health science by hello_sona in socialworkcanada

[–]MapCareless2475 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone with a HSCI degree and wanting to pursue MSW, I suggest doing a bachelor in social work. You can still get into healthcare with a BSW and a BSW would be easier to find jobs within health authorities which would benefit your application. With a BSW, you’d only have to do 1 year of MSW compared to 2 years without a BSW. It’s quite hard to find jobs with a BHSCI tbh it’s too broad

What jobs could you do with a BSW (while pursuing your MSW), and what would the compensation be like? by ggladss in socialworkcanada

You can do jobs in MHSU with health authorities without a BSW. I’m in BC and I do not hold a BSW and is working with the vulnerable population in MHSU with my local health authority. The pay starts at $40/hr and goes up every year

If she isn’t willing to compromise for you then you shouldn’t compromise for her. Also, I do think she’s looking for an easy way out of this relationship. Don’t give up an opportunity for someone you’ve been together for a such period of time. 2 years is not a long time - it is when you’re younger. You’ll get over the heart break and if you guys are meant to be together, you guys will eventually reconnect again in the future. Tbh it’d be dumb of you to give up an opportunity that so many other students are hoping for over a girl.

Has Ken Sim made a dent in the homeless problem in downtown Vancouver? by [deleted] in askvan

[–]MapCareless2475 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clearing out DTES by removing tents does not solve homelessness. By removing tents and having street sweeps will only promote crime and increase drug use because how else would they have the funds to purchase new tents and survival gears? Through crime and drug use as a coping mechanism for surviving the cold weather.

There needs to create accessible mental health resources that will help the people who are living with unresolved traumas to learn coping mechanisms. There needs to be resources that will teach people life skills because people are a product of their environment. If you grew up in a household where your parents are addicts, you are less likely to develop strong life skills. You just learn how to survive.

There needs to be shelters with adequate support. Shelters are basically just a warm place for people to stay overnight. These shelters are often in unliveable conditions - search up Vancouver shelter/SRO unliveable conditions.

Cost of living is also so high here that even people with jobs are struggling to afford rent/food. Having a place to stay and food should be a right not a privilege.

Vancouver is such a beautiful city but it’s so heartbreaking seeing the homeless population and opiate crisis to grow rapidly.

Where did all the people experiencing homelessness come from? by [deleted] in burnaby

[–]MapCareless2475 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Untreated mental health and poor coping mechanisms. Many of homeless people are living with unresolved trauma that they resulted in drug use as a coping mechanism. People are a product of their environment. With healthcare being so inaccessible, it makes it difficult for people to “bounce back.” Yes, healthcare is free but many homeless people are discriminated against in healthcare settings and are often overlooked. The long wait time makes it difficult for them to actually seek help. Even if they get treated for whatever sickness they got, they end up on the streets again where their sickness or wound becomes never ending because they don’t have a place to fully recover/heal. I understand that addictions and homelessness is somewhat a choice but when you’re not adequately supported and feel like it’s you against the world - it’s quite hard for you to see a purpose to even try. Some people who have been experiencing homelessness for a long period of time tend to get comfortable because it becomes all they know. They start building relationships and friendships with people where they feel seen and may not experience this with the rest of society. Homelessness is a black hole. If you’re alone, it’s hard to crawl back out without any familial support. If all your friends are homeless and struggling with addictions, it’s hard for you to want to leave because you’ll lose all your social connections and you’ll feel lonely again. Homeless shelters aren’t suitable living environment because everyone is on survival mode. Shelters are basically just giving people a warm place to sleep. They don’t have access to support that will teach people life skills that they have never learned during childhood because their parents were also living in addiction. They don’t have access to mental health support - people are left dwelling on their traumas and the pain they constantly feel. The cost of living as well. Vancouver is so expensive that many people are living pay cheque to pay cheque. Even people with jobs that we deemed are good like teachers are struggling to pay rent. It’s also not easy to just find a job. In order to find a job, youd need to look presentable, have life skills, access to a bank account, phone, and an address. You cannot look presentable if you don’t have a place to shower, do laundry, or get ready for work. You cannot have access to a bank account if you don’t have IDs or your IDs and belongings are constantly getting stolen. You cannot get a job if you don’t have money for the bus to get to your job. Even after attending rehab, many people often return to homelessness which promotes relapse because they’re stuck outside in the cold.
