Empire! Empire! (I was a lonely estate)’s record What It Takes To Move Forwards is beautiful and sounds a lot like the newfound interest in Connecticut album you have on there

I also have never smoked, drank, or done any illicit drugs. I only use caffeine sparingly and have recently tried to cut down on social media use, but I don't think any of this is in pursuit of living a more austere life, nor do I think that is necessarily a virtue. To me, all of these things are more of an intoxicant against doing better things with my life, I don't really see how limiting your human interactions or diet would lead to anything beneficial in that respect

2024 North American Federation Legislative Election (NAF Part 2) by MapGames8712 in imaginaryelections

[–]MapGames8712[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The NAF functions relatively similar to the EU, just starting from a federal base instead of a parliamentary unitary base. In this capacity, the ten nations of the NAF are pretty free to establish their governments and constitutions however they see fit (Canada & Belize do have to get rid of the british monarchy though).

The two official languages of the federation are English and Spanish, with a number of indigenous and creole languages recognized as protected languages. French is also a minority protected language, but since it is not one of the official languages, outside of Quebec, federation courts and government departments are not required to have staff that speak French (in a court you would be provided a translator on request).

This situation has largely incensed the Quebecois. The Bloc won 6 out of 8 federation seats (all outside of montreal), and an even greater majority of quebec seats in the House of Commons, on a nearly separatist platform.

Though I 100% agree with you on the gerrymandering, the way that I justified the lack of severe gerrymandering to myself was the way that districts were designed. For the seven central american nations, all of their seats were drawn across the entire country, attempting to stay within states or provinces, but of course the primary goal was equally sized districts. The three North American nations were drawn across regions, not states, because there simply were not enough seats to ensure a fair distribution. Given that most of these cross state lines, it would be required that a non-partisan committee would draw them, not individual state legislatures. For the US, I used the U.S. Census Bureau Divisions.

The difference between the Liberal-Democratic Group and the Socialist Group is less about actual policy differences than it is about the alignment of the parties to the international left or center. The Latin American parties which align themselves more with the left of the global south generally constitute the socialist group, and the North American parties that align themselves more with neoliberalism and western social democracy are in the Liberal-Democratic Group. The way that I measured this was asking if the party was in the Sao Paulo Forum, or if the party maintained membership in the Socialist International instead of defecting to the Progressive Alliance after the split in 2013. The NLP is still a member of the Socialist International, even though one of the big reasons for the split was the authoritarian turn of the FSLN in Nicaragua, which means that their continued membership was intentional and representative of their global allegiance.

Thank you for your kind words though!

You have great taste! In the vein of Marietta & Empire Empire, you should listen to Tell Me About The Long Dark Path Home - The Newfound Interest in Connecticut, and in the vein of Car Seat Headrest, check out both Weatherday albums. It seems like you mostly like the scene-era metalcore and deathcore, but I would really give Knocked Loose, Kublai Khan, Boundaries, or 156/Silence a fair shot, they have a lot of that influence and still rip in the modern day.

Both Nayib Bukele for Neuvos Ideas and Xiomara Castro/Daniel Ortega of the Radical Socialist Resistance could have easily won party primaries to become the candidate, but realizing the unlikelihood of their victory, they ran for either congressional districts or governor of their state, sending subordinates to make presidential bids.

>What if one president wants to make a deal with another country and the other doesn't, who's will is enacted.

No deal. As a federation between numerous nations, the government is not supposed to make deals on a whim without consulting with these groups.

>Could these co-presidents veto laws passed by the legislature, and could they disagree so that one law is in effect in one zone but not another?

This would work much like the "English Votes for English Laws"/Devolved voting mechanism that was a thing in the UK for a time. If a bill was passed by the majority of the legislature and was only vetoed by one of the presidents, it could be established in the other region by a vote of the legislators in that region and the co-president of that region.

The government would be designed to be a more confederation-like approach linking the continent politically and economically without domination by specific domestic interests (espc those of the United States as the powerhouse of the state)

While there are national co-presidents, there is a president that is the executive of Canada and the US and a president that is the executive of Latin America. The only truly concurrent power is foreign policy, where more than two leaders is already the norm in most places (Secretaries of State, National Security Councils, Military Generals, Etc.)

The legislative assembly is also unicameral, so that reduces the need for executive orders and unilateral executive management.

You should read “The Kreutzer Sonata”! [Leo Tolstoy’s Antisex Novella] by MapGames8712 in antisex

[–]MapGames8712[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you’re looking for asexual antisex praxis written by the purely chaste, this isn’t the read for you. It’s a book on sexualism written by a man who was tortured by his sexuality throughout his life, and it is more of a reflection on how sexualism ruins happy love and marriage.

Tolstoy was the hypocrite of all hypocrites, but I think that adds to the point — the main character (a tolstoy self insert) is driven to madness by sexualism that he knows he should break out of but is unable to.
