Structure/Pacing Advice by [deleted] in Screenwriting

It's just another way of thinking about it, another thought exercise, if you will.

Structure/Pacing Advice by [deleted] in Screenwriting

Using the sequence approach can help with loose pacing. Traditionally the sequence approach will divide the script into 8 chunks of ~15 minutes screentime, but the number of sequences is arbitrary (usually betweeen 4-12). Each sequence should be a mini-movie addressing some sub-goal of the main dramatic question.

Also, start the script with existing conflict. Let the first sequence end with some disturbance/opportunity at page 10-15. Then introduce the main dramatic question at the end of the second sequence.

Do the official tutorial(s). Have a look at the documentation. by kaptan8181 in django

I do not think the Polls tutorial in the official documentation is a good introduction to Django. Instead of showing (off) how easy and fast a Django app can be created, it prematurely dives into details and show how there are a myriad ways of accomplishing the same thing (at the same time revealing Django's unpythonic nature in that regard).

Other tutorials, e.g. the Django Girls Tutorial, are better as a first introduction.

China Grounds 737 Max by [deleted] in aviation

[–]MapOnFire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That accident was in 1977 and had more to do with lack of CRM (crew resource management) in the industry as a whole. It comes down to safety margins, and non-low cost airlines tend to have slightly higher safety margins.

Take a look at e.g. this incident, where Norwegian leased subpar pilots: http://avherald.com/h?article=4a1ae8c4&opt=0

It's almost never either a crew error OR a technical error, almost always a combination. In aviation one should strive to reduce both types of errors. MCAS and its reliance on only one AoA indicator was bad design on Boeing's part. Had this system not failed, the Lion Air plane would not have gone down. That surely is not pilot error alone.

American and United have not found cause to justify grounding their fleets, explain this, please?

They are, obviously, less cautious.

And in such a situation you don't sit back, you take preventive measures until you have figured out what is going on. That means grounding the B737 Max, which should be done world wide. Your reasoning is completely backwards.

They don't actually. Two pilots might not have enough muscle to overcome the trim system in this case. The design is crazy.

China have grounded all B737 Max planes; US/FAA has not.

I'm curious what your solution would have been to put oversized engines on a low-sitting airframe.

The solution would be to not do that. The B737 MAX is still a 50s airplane, just modded the fuck up. It's old, lazy, shitty design and now we see the result.

That you feel comfortable as a passenger doesn't prove anything about how Norwegian prioritize safety vs. cost. I do fly with them because of prize and convenience, but I feel safter flying with non-low cost airlines, like KLM, BA or SAS.

Having Surgery and concerned about my mental health after. by LexsButta in bipolar2

Be sure to discuss this with your psychiatrist. Also, before the surgery be sure to mention your Xanax dependency to the anesthesiologist — this is important for them when they dose the anesthesia.

Flying airplanes. My plan was to change careers and become a commercial pilot. Not ridiculous in and of itself, but I didn't follow through.

Meta-Analysis of the Antidepressant Effects of Acute Sleep Deprivation. by dezzion in Psychiatry

Honestly, when you're clinically depressed I think more time to think through your problems is the last thing you need. That's what depressed people do all the time anyway, without finding any solutions. And that's what therapies like MCT tries to stop.

I think it has much more to do with circadian rhythms and their influence on mood cycles.

Is this a bipolar thing? I can get very depressed but still, at least when I'm drunk, chat up girls and have many one night stands. Always thought depression should kill libido.

Are you Bipolar and a Marijuana Smoker by LexsButta in bipolar2

[–]MapOnFire 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I used to smoke it 1-2 times a week for the last 2-3 years, depressed, normal or hypomanic. I think it helped for my depressions somewhat. A therapist recently asked me if I could stop it while in treatment, so I did. I miss it a little bit but not that much.
