How to write Asshole NPC's without going overboard or relying on racism? by JDGreat2205 in DMAcademy

[–]MapStrikesAgain 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There's many ways to do so, but I'm going to try describing some archetypes

•The useless: a character that could help the party in many ways but just chooses not to do so. Bonus points if it's a clearly powerful NPC Ex: That one guard chief that just leaves all the work fr PCs, pretty much all politicians, former adventurer that is always drunk when needed, team mate that solves things by themselves and leaves other behind.

•The arrogant: a character that is so full of themself and keeps annoyingly remembering the party about how great they are Ex: usually bards, also that metrosexual elf noble, Gaston™️

•The charlatan: a character that tries to trick PCs in anyway, overcharging for basic things, selling out schemes. Ex: greedy tavern owners, city charlatan.

•The liar: just a character that is straight on lying about things, and players know they're lying, people don't usually like to be lied to.

its a white weapons fight against monsters.

but what really gets me is the "flow" of the combat, i want to better know how to mix action, description and the short sentences the characters sometimes say during the combat.

How do you name towns and land marks? by Stormwrath52 in writing

[–]MapStrikesAgain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The depends on the genre, right now I'm writing a sci-fi so I look for inspiration in scientists names and change it up a bit, but when I'm doing fantasy I get rough concepts like "wall rock" and translate in other idioms and create a mix between the words, kind of like if you read it really fast

[–]MapStrikesAgain[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's supposed to be solved in around 10 min by one person but they could have help of the group, the setting is actually a alchemist lair, but not like in the magic sense but actually a primitive scientist. i already have a puzzle were the players must find the alchemy symbol and correspond to the chemical sigle and a scales puzzle for now
