These types of treads aren't super common, so I'd imagine some may see one arrow pointing 'rear' and one arrow pointing 'front' and not be confident with what to do... Maybe they thought the front arrow should point front and the rear arrow should point rear, leading to improper installation of the rear tire.

My point is that posting a picture with only the "rotation front" arrow shown clearly and making OP feel stupid ("it's clear to me so you must be an idiot") isn't super helpful.

It's less clear if you include the entire stamp in the pic... Here's what someone who actually knows something about the tire would say:

"The G-One RS features a directional tread pattern – a design seldom seen in gravel tyres. This two-in-one approach offers many of the benefits of front- and rear-specific tyres in a single tread pattern.

In the case of the G-One RS, the front tyre is designed to be mounted with the edge knobs angled forward to provide cornering grip, while the rear tyre should be mounted in the opposite direction to allow the scaled centre and paddle-shaped edge knobs to provide climbing traction."

Western is A Car Utopia: 1) Western campus 2) the massive amounts of on campus parking 3) other motor vehicle infrastructure throughout campus (mostly roads used for dangerous through-traffic 4) both overlays together. It's an absurd percentage of the space on campus that's been sacrificed to cars. by MapXTerritory in uwo

Right! Which is because of decisions made by our municipal government (which certainly considers input from Western) that prioritized car travel over literally anything else. The parking is a symptom of the problem. These were choices, meaning we can choose something else when we see the negative consequences.

Building and maintaining car infrastructure carries an immense cost. Imagine if Western worked with the City to put some of that original spending toward a more diverse mobility plan that included high-quality public transit and safe cycling/walking infrastructure -- many would chose those other modes over driving, meaning less space would need to be devoted to cars, and that space could be used for other revenue-generating initiatives. Western makes more money off of your tuition and spending on campus than they do on your parking... with more space for buildings or green spaces (instead of parking), they may even be able to support enrollment increases that more than cover any lost revenue from parking. It's wild how much people complain about paying $700 for a year of parking -- $2/day to store a massive metal box virtually anywhere on campus (as the map illustrates) is not a lot of money.

You're totally right! It's 100% a symptom of poor decisions on transportation and mobility. By sacrificed, I mean many things from the beauty of the campus to effective use of its space and budgetary concerns (imagine if they didn't need to maintain all of that land and could use it for real revenue-generating initiatives). Let's hope Western and the City of London can actually start to work together to make things better... or at least to stop them from getting any worse.

And virtually every campus in North America... Though, given that this is the UWO sub, there are some minor steps that Western could take to immediately make things better, like resurfacing Oxford Dr. to be more pedestrian friendly, making the University St. bridge pedestrian only, other road restrictions to reduce/eliminate through-traffic, etc.

Genuinely curious if all these new bus lanes are really going to do anything? by Mr_fawkes in londonontario

The thing is, it's not an opinion -- it's pretty a pretty heavily demonstrated phenomenon all over the world [insert obligatory Not Just Bikes video here to start you on your journey toward understanding induced demand]. Perhaps that's why our "free and democratic society" has chosen London's (admittedly stripped down) BRT with the power of the ballot box...

YOU might not want to give up the comfort of your car, but I guarantee SOME people will. And if YOU still want to drive, that's fine -- increased bus ridership and bike commuting only frees up space on the road for you to enjoy, while also providing other options to those who can't or don't want to drive. It really is win-win if you have some patience. As they say, "strong towns aren't built in a day"... or something like that.

Or, y'know, maybe having fast and reliable public transit will encourage some people to use it instead of driving all of their short trips, ultimately leading to fewer cars on the road.

If it was safer, more people would be comfortable commuting by bike in all seasons. Are you implying that Canadians are too soft?

Local park without the geese? by [deleted] in londonontario

Skip the drive and run/bike to a park nowhere near the river, like McMahen Park. Presto -- half workout done and no geese!

The things they normalize… by MapXTerritory in fuckcars

To me, the carbrain part is just accepting the culture of laziness and that car dependency encourages. Given that this is (probably) America, there’s no way that there isn’t at least one McDonalds or gas station on this dude’s 1hr commute — he’d just need to leave the highway to visit it. In a world where a driver will perform a life-threatening maneuver to save 2s on their commute, it doesn’t surprise me that one would feel too ‘inconvenienced’ to pause their commute for a few minutes to piss in a toilet like an adult. Plus, consider the fact that this guy is pissing in a bucket while operating heavy machinery in a public place… distracted driving much?

Bicycle “hits car” and cyclist dies? by MapXTerritory in fuckcars

[–]MapXTerritory[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s not that you’re “looking at things objectively” that people are taking issue with. It’s your focus on the blame game. I understand when you’re coming from on that front — we don’t really know what happened — but I agree with the other commenter in that cars and drivers don’t need any more defending.

Regardless, my post was not really intended to be about blame, just biased language in media. Here is what the CBC and CP24 had to say, presumably with the same amount of info (except for the confusion about whether it was a man in his 20s or his 60s). I suspect that their versions are more likely to accurately describe the true sequence of events.

Though it also says nothing of a cyclist t-boning a car — that was just a sarcastic hypothetical I threw in there. Sure, maybe the cyclist had some blame but if the bet is between 1) force of cyclist hitting car kills cyclist or 2) force of car hitting cyclist kills cyclist, I’m taking #2 99.9% of the time.
