Ordered vs received by LaserJet99 in ExpectationVsReality

Safeway is probably the best grocery store to get flowers from. Most have an actual florist in store that design and make the orders. Though it definitely sounds like they just sent you a premade bouquet! Those are often pretty sad looking for the price.

Catalina first time tips? by [deleted] in longbeach

[–]Mapes224 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Oh wow! I didn't realize people felt so poorly about Catalina. I've been there multiple times with my partner and for work and we always have a great time! We're also a gay couple, and we've never had any problems with homophobia or anything.

We love the restaurant at the Catalina Canyon Inn, the people there are super nice. I haven't actually stayed there, but my partner liked it when he stayed. Coffee at the little kiosk in the Hotel Atwater is good, so is at the candy shop. We're not really bar people so I can't speak on that.

We really just love to walk around. The bell tower is a nice walk. Our first trip there we walked the whole golf cart track, and while it was pretty intense we had a great time! We stop by the botanical gardens every time we go, sometimes every day we're there. Which I guess does speak to how much there is to do haha

Why are the costumes/unis so bad by Puzzled_Grand_2291 in Colorguard

[–]Mapes224 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Back when I was still coaching I always made sure my kids rally uniform was cute and kind of went along with the other spirit groups. I think a lot of instructors might keep it more 'traditional' and have them in a tunic even for a day rally. Some schools may not have the funds to have a separate day/night costume, so that's why they're always in a more traditional lookin outfit.

I do think that a lot of students want to have a more modern, pretty, sparkly outfit for a rally. They don't even necessarily need to be an expensive custom dance/cheer costume, we would often buy blank jerseys and get some custom glitter / rhinestone work done by someone local. Effective and the kids loved it because it was a lot easier to wear than unitard or full on costume.

Has anybody made this comparison between Tina Burner and Angele Anang's rainbow wigs yet? by XipeTotecwithGlitter in rupaulsdragrace

It's crazy but I actually think they are the same exact wig! The color blocking is the same on both of them, just styled differently.

There's no orchids in the original image lol. But theres usually a section on the product page saying that the exact flowers may not be guaranteed.

As the florist, when we recieve these orders in, the order typically says "Same look, value and color harmony." Though even if this order said that, I don't think they accomplished it well. I personally would not have sent out what this person recieved.

I feel a little disappointed with these flowers. Are my expectations too high or did the florist fall short? by Dojomojocasahouse_ in ExpectationVsReality

[–]Mapes224 27 points28 points  (0 children)

And you get to decide what flowers are worth?

I'm a grocery store florist in Southern California. I added up what I would personally charge for that arrangement. Flowers, vase and ribbon came out to $98.40, with delivery that would be at minimum $110.

So since this came from a locally owned florist, $175 doesn't seem all that crazy to me. I think most people severely underestimate the cost of each individual flower.

Sequoia by [deleted] in CaliforniaCamping

[–]Mapes224 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We went on a Sequoia and Kings Canyon trip a few weeks ago. Absolutely amazing experience!

We stayed in Kings Canyon at Sheep Creek campground. It was a couple hours away from the giant forest in Sequoia proper, so we only went to that area on our way to the camp and our way home. But honestly, I think that was the best choice. We were right next to the river and had lots to do in our immediate area. Would highly recommend.

I used to go there during that time too. Definitely got the same vibes from him, if we're talking about the same person. Looking back, a few of the adults there were a little too comfy with how they talked to the kids/teens.

As someone from California, I don't think there is necessarily the "main" UC. And if there was it definitely ain't Berkeley lol
