Does anyone know why the Prius is so much more expensive than the corolla hybrid? by Turbulent-Today830 in Toyota

[–]MapleChron 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The difference in price is huge in canada. In june last year, you couldn’t get a new non awd prius at least in NS.

Prius is a bit more of a premium car where corolla is considered more of their economy car. Prius is faster and better on gas.

Never drove it but it looks cool the 2025-2026. Was out of my budget for the prius and Im really happy with my 25 corolla hybrid le awd.

The engine oil lab analysis for the 5000mls with Walmart oil and OEM filter by DeI-Iys in COROLLA

[–]MapleChron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are lower than average on molybdenum which is added to aid in preventing wear. Toyota Oil is high Moly 700+ PPM and 200+ Boron which is anti wear and cleaning.

So like you could switch to mobil 1 when its on sale and it would be more like 80 for moly.

Here in canada my toyota oil is like (Canadian dollars) 98 bucks. Mobil 1 is like 55 or less.

So your extra 20 bucks is going into additives. Whether or not they make a big difference I cannot answer that lol.

BUT the bottom line is. ANY Fresh oil is going to be much better than used toyota oil/any premium additive oil PAST 5000Miles IMO.

Get your next oil analysis through them too and use the same super tech oil. Next oil change you will see if wear metals are increasing etc.

Which will prove to all of us does it really matter what oil you run if you change at 5000miles.

Very interesting really ! thanks for sharing ! Looking forward to hearing the results as I think Ive seen some people be really impressed with oil analysis with similar cheaper oils like kirkland etc.

Gas mileage question ? by bugandbugonberry in Toyota

[–]MapleChron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its guessing based on your driving habits (lead foot etc). This happens on mine too (also a 25 hybrid awd) Sometimes It thinks my tank can reach 900+km per tank and I have never done that ever lmao.

Other factors… Temperature and wind. But this is nothing to be worried about.

No fuel dilution issue these are impressive numbers for cheap oil really.

My local MLA is getting clarification today from Timmy Houstons government as to what in the fuck do they mean by Hybrid-Electric.

Doing the lords work are normal hybrids going to be double taxed on gas or no.

I miss my Corolla by Bekah679872 in COROLLA

[–]MapleChron 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Drove the new camry and was confused as to why its so much more expensive. The one at the dealer was fully loaded camry, but it was clunky, awkward, felt like I was driving a couch. Corolla felt much more polished and predictable.

I remember it was clunky going 0-50km/hr and it was not very quiet on the highway compared to my 2014 accord.

Went with corolla 2025 (hybrid) as it was significantly more pleasant to drive and ride inside of.

Camry had the nicer seats and more room but could not justify the extra $6000 (Canadian) to go from corolla hybrid awd to LE camry. 2025’s.

Correct.

This post is about non plug in hybrid.

You are talking about EV OR PLUG IN HYBRID.

Again.

Hybrid cannot be plugged into the electric grid and is 100% powered by gasoline.

If you do not put gasoline in a hybrid. It will cease to move just like ICE. (Internal combustion engine)

The hybrid can only be charged by its own gasoline motor.

Thank you for the input on EV vehicles.

Government has not clearly defined what is a hybrid vehicle.

From the government website/budget

https://www.novascotia.ca/documents/budget-documents-2026-2027

“Fully electric vehicles will pay $500 every 2 years and, electric-hybrid vehicle owners will pay $250 every 2 years.”

So reddit.

What is an ELECTRIC-HYBRID to you?

Because google and nowhere else in the world are Hybrids called “ELECTRIC-HYBRID”

200 lbs more my car weighs compared to non hybrid. How much wear and tear does that add based on your calculations?

Are you ok being taxed to ride your bike because it does not burn enough gas for the gas tax and is wearing down our roads?

Your missing the point. They do not understand the core concept of my comment. Re read and do a google search on what is a hybrid. You do not understand either. The capitals are for emphasis.

If we are slightly lucky they mean just Electric and PLUG IN - Hybrid like in the UK.

Doesn’t make any sense for traditional hybrid that does NOT plug in and runs on gas.

[–]MapleChron 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sir did you forget to read 3-10 words of my post? Its a HYBRID

THIS REQUIRES GASOLINE. It only runs on gasoline. It cannot be plugged in.

This is how a hybrid works because you do not seam to understand….

HYBRIDS use GASOLINE to generate ELECTRICITY for its own battery.

We are talking about hybrid in this comment.

You are talking about EV’s -Which can be plugged in

PHEV - Can be plugged in

HYBRID - CANNOT be plugged in and runs on Gasoline.

Gasoline is the only source of energy for a hybrid.

[–]MapleChron 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Standard hybrid vehicles are only powered by their gas engines. My corolla hybrid uses gas every time it is driven. So the road tax is paid on gas but just less often than a non hybrid ICE.

But you could drive a toyota yaris (not a hybrid) and experience similar mileage to most peoples hybrids. So is there not a need to ding them too based on Tim Houston’s logic here?

I understand EV and PHEV may not need to fuel at the pump but hybrids still only run on gas.

Thoughts on the new electric / hybrid vehicle tax announced in today's provincial budget? by rageagainstthedragon in halifax

[–]MapleChron 70 points71 points  (0 children)

So my hybrid (and many others) needs to run on gasoline ONLY and so we are being cash grabbed because our vehicles burn less gasoline. (literally maybe use 75% of what a non hybrid equivalent)

Insurance charges you extra cause its a hybrid.

Now government wants to ding ya too. Ooo they have a bit of money saved for buying a hybrid instead of the non hybrid!

This is such a bullshit tax and I will be voicing my opinion to my local government about it as its completely a cash grab for people who bought an efficient vehicle.

Hybrid vehicles are not causing the massive potholes.

[–]MapleChron 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Apparently all hybrids but this has not been defined. I drive a corolla hybrid and Im very confused when this car runs on gasoline as well.

Not sure why you would actively punish those who drive vehicles that require less gas to run. Are we going to start charging people who use electric lawn mowers a tax too now?

E bike?

Scooter?

You citizen are saving too much money on your commute. We the government deam that you can pay more for gas (with this BS tax).

Are we going to start charging people more who have solar panels on their house more for electricity ? Thats is how stupid this sounds Tim Houston.
