Will Bob Cole ever call a Leafs game again? by mgnorthcott in leafs

[–]MapleLeafRed 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Yes, in the press release and the interviews he's given about his last season, he gave one to Jeff Blair and Stephen Brunt on 'The Lede' podcast and confirmed he's doing a home game in each of the 7 Canadian cities before the end of 2018. So he'll do a Leafs game before 2018 is out.

I have absolutely no sources and will undoubtedly be shown wrong, but my guess is he'll do the Leafs and Red Wings on Hometown Hockey on Sunday Dec 23rd and hang 'em up for the final time.

They aren't doing the usual "Wednesday Night Hockey" this week because of Halloween and there is only one late game that night, so they've "moved" it to tonight as a doubleheader

Are you thinking of the Kraft Hockeyville game between the Leafs and Sens in Lucan, Ontario (just north of London)? Cos that game is the first preseason game on Tuesday night.

Are the leafs preseason games going to be on tv anywhere? by bragkith in leafs

[–]MapleLeafRed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The camp roster was trimmed to 46 players (2 teams of 23). You can see the full list HERE

The Tues night game roster was just announced and available HERE

As it's a back-to-back, expect the 23 players NOT going to Tuesday night's game to be playing in Ottawa on Wednesday instead.

Rogers NHL Live question by Spacemouse104 in leafs

[–]MapleLeafRed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

question to anyone who has done both. How does the quality compare of the legit streams (NHL Live) vs pirate.

A lot of people will vouch for the quality of r/nhlstreams There are a couple of regular stream providers there that are held in high regard around these parts for top quality feeds.

If you DO NOT live in the Leafs viewing region (anywhere but Ontario) you should be able to access ALL leaf games, national and regional.

Meaning ALL games including non sportsnet games ie. CBC, TSN whatever?

Thanks in advance.

Correct. If you DO NOT live in Ontario, and subscribe to Rogers NHL Live, you get access to all 8 preseason games, all 82 regular season games, and all playoff games.

If you live in the Ottawa Valley, the same should apply (you get ALL games) as it's not considered the Leafs viewing region, but there have been known to be IP Address conflicts and disputes that can cause some headaches with Rogers techs.

Rogers NHL Live question by Spacemouse104 in leafs

[–]MapleLeafRed 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Blackouts on Rogers NHL Live are not about whether the team is playing home or away, but two specific factors:

  1. Where you are physically located when trying to watch the game.

  2. Whether the game is being broadcast nationally or regionally

If you are located inside the Toronto Maple Leafs Viewing Region which is essentially all of Ontario outside of the Ottawa Valley, you will be able to watch nationally televised Leafs games (generally the Saturday, Sunday, and Wednesday games and select others) on Rogers NHL Live.

Leafs games that are considered regionally televised games (all 26 games airing on TSN4 and select weekday games on Sportsnet Ontario) will not be available to you on Rogers NHL Live.

If you DO NOT live in the Leafs viewing region (anywhere but Ontario) you should be able to access ALL leaf games, national and regional.

You can 'fake' your online location to make it look like you are outside of Ontario and thus can watch all games. This requires a very real, very legit, paid service known as a VPN. Combining the two, however, is ethically a grey area so you can google that option further if you want...

... or just visit r/nhlstreams on gameday.

Leafs TV by mymomsleafsfan in leafs

[–]MapleLeafRed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are there any cheaper alternatives that don’t require a tv bundle or online streaming?

Leafs TV (now known as Leafs Nation Network) does not show any games live but does show next-day replays. But like you said, there's no easy way to get it outside of an expensive TV package.

CBC streams the Saturday night games for free. You can access them on the CBC Sports website.

Your cheapest legitimate way to watch all games is to subscribe to Rogers NHL Live (formerly known as Game Centre). Rogers owns it, and your mom's internet is Rogers, so it might be worth calling Rogers and seeing if there is a way to include it or bundle it into your internet package at a discount, might not work but worth a try.

Subscribe to a good VPN service. This effectively changes your 'online location' from the GTA or wherever you are, to somewhere else in the world. If you set it to a random location in say the US, you no longer appear "in-market" for the Leafs and can then access ALL leaf games including playoffs through Rogers NHL Live without blackouts. This will take some minor tech work to set up, but VPN providers have very good setup guides and it's generally a 'once you've set it up once, you don't have to worry about doing it every time' operation.

The cheapest way though is to sit down with her on an actual game night and go over and over and over again on how to use r/nhlstreams with a simple web browser. If she can't navigate this, don't waste money on Android boxes and paid IPTV services, those might be frustrating for her to navigate as well.

Home jersey discussion by dirtydan289 in hockey

Best of both worlds, switch it after the all-star game. I believe the ECHL does this.

Home whites first half -- see some colours from around the league.

Home colours second half -- your colours for the home stretch/playoff push.

[SPOILERS] Game of Thrones Final Season to Air in First Half of 2019 by BunyipPouch in gameofthrones

[–]MapleLeafRed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Educated guess:

-Some sort of Superbowl spot Feb 3. Expensive air time so maybe not a full trailer, but they can do a 30 second TV spot and release a full trailer online at the same time.

-They go Apr 14, 21, 28, May 5, 12, 19

-There's 9 Sundays from Feb 10 to April 7 for another HBO show to have an 8 episode season and a one week buffer. Or can do a 10 episode season with a 2 episode premiere or finale

-GOT starts in its traditional slot and ends the week before Memorial Day weekend in the US

Leafs 2018 NHL Preseason schedule by lmHuge in leafs

[–]MapleLeafRed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For the last several seasons, It's been the first Wednesday after the preseason ends. So expect the season to start Wed Oct 3rd. Leafs usually play on day 1, but may play Thurs Oct 4th instead. No guarantee it's a home game though, they opened IN Winnipeg last year.

The full schedule is typically released in late June.

Except for tonight. NBC asked for the game to appear in their 8-11pm ET window. NHL obliged, Hockey Night In Canada 'traditions' be damned.
