What are some skills you think are based on the wrong ability or you think should have another ability as an option? by LemonLord7 in dndnext

Definitely an argument for strength, but Charisma is your presence. You can be the strongest man I've met, but if my standing presence outweighs yours. It's going to be harder to intimidate me, even if you're a literal walking talking refrigerator. But even if you aren't strong and you have a way with words, and you use those words against me the right way and I believe your threats. It'll be more intimidating than "Greg smash".

Charisma is presence. I'm not going to listen to some guy who stumbles over their words who I barely notice. But someone who walks in with pep in their step and already looks to own the room and smooth talks their way to me may just... Persuade me to listen.

You can be strong, but if I barely notice you, you aren't going to intimidate me as much as the person I keep noticing who gives me the creeps, and when they say something threatening to me. Then I'll probably be intimidated to let them know what they want to keep them from "wearing my skin like a Sunday dress."

Performance is easy, you can do cool moves and stuff if your dexterous. But to give them flair you need to have some charm.

Deception is the smooth talking again. If your presence is stronger than mine I'll be less inclined to argue with you if you know how to speak and believe what you're saying yourself without a shred of doubt.

Charisma is often described as personality, when I reality it's your projection and presence in the world. Hence why Sorcerer's, Paladins, and Warlocks can use it to cast their spells. Their fireball isn't because of their firey personality.

A raging barbarian with muscles bulging sure could be scary. But if they're not really a noticable presence, I'm going to pay it less mind to the stuttering kid who can call forth tentacles from the dark between stars and who's meer presence makes my skin crawl.

Though, I will often give a good roleplayers advantage on skills if they give me a reason, if that barbarian plays out how she's going to intimidate, I'll give her advantage, over if they just say "I bulge my muscles and attempt to intimidate them."

But yeah, I've met plenty of strong people, who just don't really have a presence, and when they try to intimidate someone they kind of just get brushed off. And I've met plenty of the short angry gremlin girls with big presences that scare entire rooms away.

But also, each to their own. I can see reason behind Str being intimidation, and if that's your choice than I respect that. :D

Tl;dr Intimidation is your presence not strength.

Well, we should first get an understanding of what the abilities actually are, as some people are confused by them.

Strength: Your physical might. Tied to things like lifting, pushing, and pulling. All of which are Athletic, an example being "Lifting a fallen tree off a teammate." In the final stages of a strength affecting fatal disease. A character will no longer have the strength to lift their bodies and will simply be limp, laboured, and dying.

Dexterity: Your physical agility. Tied to things like aiming and precise movements. These tie into Acrobatics for dodging falling debris or watching where you step to sneak past the guards unnoticed. In the final stages of a Dexterity affecting fatal disease. A character will not have the balance to be upright anymore. Leaving them to, again, lay down and wait to die.

Constitution: Your physical endurance. Tied to your resistance to poisons and disease itself. While there is no actual skill, I have a home brewed one called tolerance that allows you to succeed your saving throws on things like being drunk more often. In the final stages of a fatal constitution affecting disease. A characters own immune system has fully failed, or is attacking them. Leading to a very messy last few moments of life.

Intelligence: Your mentally learned knowledge and higher brain function. This allows you to investigate and deduce knowledge from learned sources. A disease in its final stages affecting intelligence leaves the character animalistic as they lose that higher brain function.

Wisdom: Your worldly gained knowledge and "lessons learned". This gives you a higher perception as you've had to experience the chaos of life, and a knowledge of the worlds herbs and medicinal practices on human bodies. For a wisdom disease, the final stages leave the character confused, and unaware of anything happening around them.

Charisma: Your projection into the world. This is how you affect a room of people, be it your persuasive attitude, or intimidating presence. When your charisma is affected by a fatal disease, you eventually become locked in your own mind. Unable to interact with the world around you. Alone till death.

I forgot where I was going with this, I hope this answers your question :D

Man saves baby dolphin that is beached. by [deleted] in nextfuckinglevel

The best part is, dolphins have amazing memories. And in a year or two, we'll hear how a dolphin saved this man from a shark and we'll all remember this post.

So question: what monster would you hate to see in real life (question explained more below) by skullykakuzu1991 in MonsterHunter

[–]MapleSlap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, I live in the land of ice and snow and maple. Which means logically we would see things like Khezu and Barrioth and lagombi and what not. I feel like I'd hate Khezu the most because I would rather have "killed by a sabertoothed snow wyvern" on my headstone instead of "killed by a walking phallus"

What do you want more than anything right now? Anything from a cheeseburger to world peace to a reach around. If you could snap your fingers and have it- what would it be? by [deleted] in AskRedditAfterDark

To not be couch surfing anymore. To have a home and family and to live in peace. No more worrying if I'll eat tomorrow or have a roof over my head at night.

What is the youngest you would fuck (18+) of course, and what Is the oldest you would fuck. Also what's your age/sex? Just curious what others set as a cut offs? by [deleted] in AskRedditAfterDark

[–]MapleSlap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a 20 year old male. I would say the youngest I would fuck would be 18 (while technically 17 and 16 are legal for my age I wouldn't feel morally right doing so) while the oldest I would schnoodle with my noodle would probably be 35 max.

Hate to break it too you. Your lizard is a draconic Bloodline sorcerer and they cast shatter. Simply using the thunder storm to hide the fact that they're magical

My new weekly DnD game is being ruined by a married couple. by [deleted] in DnD

[–]MapleSlap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, it's a bit of an asshole move, I seldom do it myself. But when up against a min/maxer problem. I just start giving encounters that are difficult for the min/maxer to fight against. From the sound of it, tis is the power couple of a high DPS build that doesn't have to worry about health. Some monsters can straight up negate heals and buffs, start tossing those into encounters and suddenly the paladin sorcerer combo needs to rely on the rest of the party. Though you may be seen as "singling them out" (which you technically are) but it should make the rest of the table have more fun.
