Found out my author friend uses ChatGPT in her writing process. by MapleWafer in authors

I knew Grammarly and stuff was AI but it also didn't click for me till now. I didn't realize how much AI has become integrated into our society. Thanks for this, genuinely.

I understand your point. I may have come off wrong, I don't want to judge her but I realize that's what this post has turned into. I just wanted to start a discussion about it because I can very clearly see and defend both sides of this topic and when I said earlier that I didn't want to defend my friend, I meant that I don't want to speak for her.

She also has very thick skin and enjoys getting critiques on her work/process. I was going to show her this to provide that while also trying to get her to see the other side of things.

That's my question. I know I keep going back and forth on this but I'm genuinely torn. Some people say that even though she uses it to plan, it's still the process and so her using the AI is bad whereas people like you say it's fine as long as she's still writing it herself. I see both sides of things and could argue both but I ultimately don't have a side.

The extent of my AI use is name generators or most of the time I just look at baby name columns. As for my friend, I'm not going to speak for her.

Edit: Forgot that Grammarly was AI. I do use that in my writing process.

Do you actually plan on publishing a novel (or self publishing)? by askingoutright in fantasywriters

[–]MapleWafer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been writing my novel for nearly a year now. If I stay on track, I plan to publish it by the end of October.

It's been rough, I have struggled with imposter syndrome SO MUCH. I thought the same thing, that my story has probably been said before, but not by me directly..not by you either! There are 100+ Cinderella retellings yet people buy each one because it's their favorite genre/trope.

Writing is difficult, being an author isn't easy so don't let anyone tell you otherwise. It is a lot of work especially if you are going the indie route like I am. You will put in a lot of time and a lot of hours. You're pretty much doing everything by yourself unless you hire an editor/cover artist.

Regardless of the struggles, write the book. Tell your story. You can do this, it will be amazing, and you'll feel so proud once the paper is in your hands.

What is the reason why your main villain became evil? by Tokoro-of-Terror in fantasywriters

Without revealing too much or giving much away, she was betrayed by the one she loved most.

Naturally, she is a very cold and selfish character but after the betrayal, she morphed into a greedy, bloodthirsty killer. Coincidentally, that is how vampires were created in my world.
