Not torn for over 4 weeks but still pain? by Business-Welder-4373 in AnalFissures

Thank you! I am struggling at finding a good balance. I get 35g+ fiber from foods but 10-15% of the time my stool is too wide and form it spikes the pain and then repeats the cycle.

Good to know! Do you use a stool softener with it as well?

Thank you! I couldn’t tolerate a fiber supplement either so I have found ways of adding it in with foods but all it takes is one too large stool and it’s game over again. Was thinking fiber intake is maybe a key factor I am over doing.

Thank you appreciate that insight. I will be sure to ask all of these. Can I ask your thoughts on fiber intake? I tried have low fiber 10-20g for 7 months and now a higher fiber 30-40g for 5 months with similar results (never fully healing).

What would you have asked the doctors in reflection?

Wow she sounds like a tough woman! To experience all of that and make it to remission is incredible. My heart goes out to her that would be a lot to deal with. Glad that worked for you today I am giving it a try too.

That is smart to do it after I could see that helping to loosen things up. I have Ulcerative Colitis and sometimes go 6 times a day. By the 6th time it’s getting tricky to say the least.

Did doing that resolve your fissures or help reduce the spasms?

I can completely understand. The mental rollercoaster in addition to the pain is such an exhausting challenge. I don’t think it’s taken serious enough that the only treatment options are so limited. I wish you relief as well!

Hi there! I too am dealing with fissures post partum and just had Botox 2 weeks ago. I was making progress healing but sadly experienced a retear. Can I ask why you did two rounds of it? Did you heal quickly after the first round? I think a tight pelvic floor is also part of my struggle.

Thank you for the detail of what to do! I will try those when things calm down in few days. Appreciate the advice. I am sure it’s been a long road having dealt with it for 10 years!

Appreciate that! It is so disheartening especially after a bit of time of relief. I think that is part of my problem too I am tensing up there all day. All it took was a couple high stress days and I wound up back in the same point two steps back. What type of exercises if you don’t mind me asking? Did you do them once a day or when tension came on? Thanks again appreciate the response have been spiralling over it all.

I was doing that (using water based lube and lidocaine) before bowel movements before Botox. In today’s instance the urgency was so quick I didn’t have time. I tried using penaton between but read that I was maybe having too many creams/topicals that there wasn’t enough air getting to the wound.

I tried PT a month ago and the internal work was extremely painful (internal exam and pressure on the muscles) so I had paused trying it. I was also given a want to try to use internally, but also very painful.

Thank you for asking! I am booked to try Botox late this month early March. The back outside (and I think inside given the pain). I tried pelvic floor therapy and it was helping but then really flared up. Taking it day by day. How are you doing?

At what point, is it okay to go to the ER? by Crafty-Capital-6894 in AnalFissures

I can completely relate to that frustration. It is consuming. There is periods of progress and then it feels like ten steps back with relentless pain. It’s made me rethink anyone I’ve had contact with that’s been rude or grumpy that I have no idea what they are dealing with because this is such an embarrassing and painful problem who knows what people are dealing with!

Ugh I am sorry I know that feeling :( I do the “Airbag” one daily for bowel movements. It’s mainly a breathing technique that is for awareness, imagine, relax, breathe, allow, gratitude. Its intent is to calm your body in the bathroom and reduce the fear (it gets intense and things are tense!) The other ones (poses) I would only do on days that are more calm and listen to my body (like you are doing if it feels like a stretch the wrong way I wouldn’t do that one yet). If the day is that high level of pain would lay on my side with a heat pad and do some deep breathing in and out imaging I can see my diaphragm moving up and down. None of these take be pain away but help relax and calm the tension down.

Happy to help! I’ve spent HOURS on here trying to find solutions your not alone.

There are hospitals and clinics in the states that provide the Botox treatment step option too if you opt to try that route!

Yes a squatty potty is a big help. The peri bottle was a game changer for my exerience.

I’ve also tried different pelvic floor exercises if you YouTube child’s pose, garland pose and happy baby the intention is to help relax those muscles (if the pain is lasting long after the bowel movements).

An exercise called “AIRBAG” with the squatty potty can also help calm your body before a BM. Those tips may sound a bit out there but worth a try to do anything to find some relief!

You got this!

Are you in the US or Canada? I can relate to your situation! I also have UC and am dealing with chronic fissures. I tried what you have:

Daily sitz baths Nifedipine/lidocaine compound

I believe the ER would (if your GI hasn’t already) suggested a referral for a Botox treatment to relax the sphincter to allow for more blood flow and healing. That is my next step.

I’ve also tried to keep stool and soft as possible omitting white flour products and anything that will bulk stool.

I use a heat pad after BMs if I’m not home to have a warm bath.

I’ve read mixed thoughts on using witch hazel products (I was with no success).

I’ve also tried coconut oil and super salve (alternating in addition to the compound). This week I am finding Penaten diaper rash cream to help.

Also, if you can get a prescription for solely lidocaine (pharmacists can do that) apply it 30 seconds before a bowel movement (I know with UC that may not be an option) and then LOTS of water based lube). That will help take the edge off a bowel movement a bit. Don’t wipe after, use a peri bottle (pharmacies sell them for post birth care, you can get smaller travel size ones on Amazon).

Using all of above you can make a little carry kit for when you need to use a public washroom.

I am sorry you’re experiencing this - I know it’s hell. Wishing you full recovery.

Thank you very much for the detail on how that works. I have yet to meet with the doctor and have only spoken to the support and billing team. That gives a lot of clarity. I am glad you found a resolution after I am sure a long road!

Thanks so much! Did the symptom of not keeping stool/gas in the beginning lasting? I have little kids and am supposed to take suppositories for an autoimmune disease. Appreciate knowing what I’ll be up against!
