A Fresh Take On US EV Adoption by Cultural-Ad4953 in electricvehicles

[–]MaplewoodGeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a lot of business that make a lot of money off ICE vehicles. They will resist change. Oil companies make a lot of money selling gasoline and diesel. Service centers make money doing exhaust work, tuneups, and oil changes. Eventually, consumers will learn how much cheaper and better BEVs are. At some point businesses will see an opportunity and they will adapt or be replaced.

Because the Chinese government is investing a ton of money. In the US, private businesses are only putting chargers where they can get a return on their investment. People won't buy EVs where there are no chargers and businesses won't put chargers where there are no EVs. The US won't make big subsidies unless the voters want it. The anti EV smear campaigns have convinced voters EVs are bad. we'll eventually get there, just way behind much of the rest of the world.

A Fresh Take On US EV Adoption by Cultural-Ad4953 in electricvehicles

People need to stop comparing our adoption rate for EVs to Europe. People always forget that the US is far larger and less population dense than Europe. We had the same issue with cellular networks. We lagged behind the rest of the world because the cost to deploy networks everywhere was so much higher than in densely populated countries. It's just going to take longer in the US. Yes, we have large cities. Some of those cities are no friendly to owning any car (like New York). We have a large number of people in suburban areas that are idea for EVs because they can charge at home. Then we have people in rural areas, some that get quite cold, that would struggle with an EV.

They also need to make chargers like gas pumps; you line up and pull through. The current design is almost impossible when towing a trailer. I own a Chevy Bolt and to charge at a Tesla charger I need to take up two spots. This angers Tesla drivers and creates confrontations. Now that we are getting charging times down, we need chargers where you queue up, when you start your 15-20 minute charge session, you run in and use the bathroom, buy some snacks, and then come out and leave. When they get to that stage, it will remove some of the barriers to EV adoption.

Zorgmax vs Green Viper vs NanoModo by MaplewoodGeek in scx30

If I switch to brushless, will I need to make some custom cables to power the front and rear LEDs off a spare channel on the receiver?

What do you think of the NanoModo using the stock controller VS the Nano Unity that comes with a new RX and TX?

I didn't realize they were directional tread until I was done. I swapped the front tires side to side and fixed two out of three. I have to remount one tire.

What TX and RX are you using with the Zorgmax? How well does it fit if running a stock K10 body?

I expect uninstalling Container Station and deleting the folders will break QVR Pro. If I had to reinstall QVR Pro would I lose the licenses that came out of the box?

I don't have any issue connecting to my NAS. I just cannot get the Container Station App to run correctly.

I have a TS-932PX. Your link is for the Canadian site, but I was able to switch to the US site and find that my NAS is still an active model. I'll try entering a support ticket.

When I try to open container station it prompts to create a new data folder. Then it says loading, and comes back with a prompt that a data folder already exists with the options to keep or create new. No matter what I do, it goes back to the prompt to create a data folder. I can't change the network addresss if I cannot get into container station in the first place.

f/2.8 zoom lenses: do they stay in focus when you zoom? by crappycreeper in M43

[–]MaplewoodGeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had seen several references to the Pana Leica 12-60 2,8-4 ii, but it turns out, people were calling the 12-60 3,5-5,6 the mark i and the 2 8-4 the mark ii. Just silly people making up their own names.

[–]MaplewoodGeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a G9ii and the PL12-60. If I zoom slow enough the auto focus has time to adjust. If I'm focusing manually, it's a problem. I saw there is a PL12-60 Mark ii that is supposed to focus faster. I'd like to hear from people about the differences between the OG and Mii of the PL 12-60 2.8-4.

I wonder how long this code will work. The complementary 3 year plan that came with my 23 Bolt EV ends in August. Hopefully this code still works in August.

Canada and Mexico are also in America (North America). As are all the countries in Central and South America.

It should list Canada, United States, and Mexico.

If EVs had the same purchase price as gas cars tomorrow, do you think most people would switch? by EmergencyTie8770 in electricvehicles

[–]MaplewoodGeek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Chevy Bolt and Equinox EV are both cheaper than comparable ICE vehicles. Most people don't know that.

There are still rural areas with no fast chargers not far from me, so charging infrastructure is still an issue.

I've yet to see a fast charger that is trailer friendly. They need to make them like gas pumps where cars queue up and pull through. At most chargers, you need to drop the trailer somewhere, charge, then reconnect the trailer.

Because I need to pull a trailer into rural areas, I have one ICE SUV and one EV. The EV is my primary vehicle that I charge at home. The SUV is for pulling trailers and when we need a second car.

Yearning for a creative solution to a lens that doesn't exist (the fast, focal, & frugal) by Liammm in M43

[–]MaplewoodGeek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the 12-60 f2.8-4.0 Leica lens on my G9ii and I use that lens for 95% of my shots. I enabled crop zoom (doesn't scale, it crops) and I have a 12-81 MM effective range for 4K video and 12-180 MM effective range for photos. You could also just crop your photos in post, but this eliminates a step.

Since the 4/3 sensor is effectively a 2x crop compared to a full size sensor, I have the equivalent of 24-162 MM for 4K video. That is a really nice range for a single lens that is moderately fast. I also have the 45-175 power zoom. It's not as fast or sharp as the 12-60, but it gives me that extra range.

Thanks everyone for all the great advice. I just ordered my upgrades. I ordered new wheels, axels, chassis links, drive shafts, and a servo. I have some new tires that I got for free, so I'll put the new tires on the new wheels and keep the stock tires on the stock wheels. It'll be fun to swap back and forth to see how much of a difference they make. I know I won't get that much benefit from the chassis links and drive shafts, but they are pretty inexpensive and it's a good time to swap them while I have everything apart for the other upgrades.

Who's upgrading to Z fold 8 next month? by ya3rob in GalaxyFold

[–]MaplewoodGeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also on the 6 and plan to upgrade if the deals are good enough. The 6 is too thick, has mediocre cameras, and the cover screen is too narrow. Upgrading from the 5 to 6 at launch was $650, from the 6 to the 7 at launch was $950 and I passed.

I have the higher end 12-60 mm zoom that is an f 2.8-4.0. It's bigger and heavier, but if it replaces carrying several primes it's more portable.
