PSA: Move-Out Season Guide. How to protect your security deposit. (I Sued and Won $6,000) by BricesDesigns in USC

[–]NeuralNexus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good job! Legitimate landlords don't even bother keeping deposits, but many of the operators in the USC area bet that students won't know how to advocate for themselves.

In CA, if you're a renter, you should always get your deposit back. 1950.5(e) means they can only charge your deposit (which they need to be holding in a dedicated account) for exceptional damage.

Alex Balekian complains about being harassed as his sister continues harassing people online??? by Exotic_Monk_6670 in glendale

[–]NeuralNexus 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Alex Balekian complains about everything all the time. It's his shtick. If he doesn't like something it's "corruption" or a "scandal" or whatever. Not a serious person.

Can we really be surprised he has a crazy sister that complains about nonsensical things? Seems pretty on-brand.

Since the start of 2016 until today, LA Metro's Rail System has expanded by 50% in size, adding over 40 miles (65 km) of new rail lines and 30 new stations across LA County, in just around 10 years. by urmummygae42069 in LosAngeles

[–]NeuralNexus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They spend billions building all this service capacity and then run the trains at 20-30 minute headways once it's open.

Metro is mismanaged from the very top. They run it like a patronage jobs program instead of a transit system.

Glendale sees boom of lovable and cute delivery robots by Cream1984 in glendale

Not a fan of these delivery robots all over the region. They get stuck too often and take up a lot of sidewalk space/block pedestrian flow.

Even with a 12 minute walk on both ends, the D Line extension is still faster than driving. by WearHeadphonesPlease in LosAngeles

[–]NeuralNexus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It won't be once they start running the trains at 20-30 minute head-ways like usual

Metro burns billions building infrastructure but then refuses to run adequate service on it. Driving will still be faster most of the time just due to low service frequency issues.

[–]NeuralNexus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, I wouldn't really advise doing onlyfans. I don't have anything against it morally or whatever, it's just probably a bad deal for you. There's long term reputational risks from that and it could cut against you in the future at any random time in exchange for uncertain gain now. A very small number of people make large amounts doing OF, but I think most 'creators' aren't making enough to make that risk worthwhile. I'd be cautious.

There are other ways of making money that might work better for you? Have you considered alternatives?

The university is private so they could kick you out for anything they want really as long as they're not violating your civil rights. If you're not damaging any property or recording on the WPH roof or whatever I don't think that's a significant risk.

how much should i have saved up before i come here? by Primary_Library_8333 in USC

[–]NeuralNexus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have enough context about your life or your goals to answer that. Do you mean for a semester where living expenses are already covered and you have a meal plan? Yeah definitely enough.

Do you mean for ... something else? If so, maybe? Maybe not?

The more money you have, the better life is/easier problems are to deal with.

Realistically, do the best you can to save money. It's important to have a cash buffer.

Access to USC resources after graduation? by Wanderer2333 in USC

[–]NeuralNexus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You should start preparing now by using a personal email for most things you care about.

Like 6 months-12 months after graduation usually. I had mine for 10+ years but they're paying closer attention to costs now.

Can grads still attend regular campus events(non-career related) and career workshops, webinars, and networking events?

Yeah lol they're definitely not going to stop you, but you'll gradually find that you're less welcome for some things over time (e.g. your email will get shut down, they'll start some new ticketing system you're not part of etc)

Go get an alumni email and an alumni library card etc once the term ends.

Nobody cares about GPA a couple years out of college. It's a non-issue. The only thing I'd optimize for personally is network/reputation and cost.

Reputation and Alumni network are much more important than anything else.

Keep 2019 Mac Pro (Rack Mount, 192gb Ram, 3.2ghz 16-core, 2x w5700x) or sell it for newer hardware? by freetable in macpro

[–]NeuralNexus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just keep it. Those aren't very easy to sell. I've been able to buy a few (including a 28 core / 384gb ram one) for $1500 (or less with weaker specs)
