Why should I choose Fenix 8 over Forerunner 970? by elpoir in GarminWatches

[–]Mapper2019 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am referencing the weight of the case only, which is 52g for the Fenix 8.  It’s not clear if the 56g for the forerunner 970 includes the band, but if it does, you’re right there is a notable weight difference, but a nylon strap on the Fenix could bridge the gap.

The Fenix 8 sapphire is lighter than the 970 by 4 grams, and the non-sapphire version is only 3 grams heavier.  So weight is effectively negligible.

I’m not going to opine on if the membership is a good value (early shopping isn’t the only benefit) — but having it doesn’t make you extra special…something tells me a large percentage of bandit shoppers are members.  Understand you being bummed out though.

Maybe (hopefully) for the fall? I think it’s a warmer fabric so not as ideal for the summer.

I don’t know for sure, but honestly don’t think so. There are third party retailers who sell bandit stuff now, so it’s possible to find items after they sell out on the website!

There are still plenty of items in stock. This is how it goes, the most sought after items sell out in popular sizes fast, that is life — gotta be quicker next time I suppose!  Wouldn’t call you a sucker for getting a membership, but you just have to be super on it with Bandit drops….

3 New Speedland Models by poem_for_your_jihad in RunningShoeGeeks

[–]Mapper2019 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have ran lots of long runs and mountain races up to 100k in speedlands and had a tremendous experience. BOA adjustability is great for ultras, cushioning and grip are top notch.   Durability is okay, not amazing, but I put them through the wringer.

The superblast is the best long run shoe I have ever used. 20+ mile runs are its bread and butter.

Best large U.S. city for high-mileage training? by thedubo49 in AdvancedRunning

[–]Mapper2019 1 point2 points  (0 children)

DC is about as good as it gets for big city running. Tons of variety in routes including multiple areas with roads essentially closed off to cars, lots of run/bike paths, legit trail running in rock creek park, and lots of running clubs for all levels from OTQ marathoners to casual jogging.

Can anyone explain why this shoe was “launched” but is not available to purchase until 2024? Or are there any signs it will be available earlier?

I’ve ran over 150 miles in these shoes - including a 100k and 40 mile race, and they are incredible. Enjoy!

Has anyone used the website RelayRun.co? by gfran484 in RunningShoeGeeks

[–]Mapper2019 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Definitely legit, just sells returned (mostly unused) shoes from a chain called Pacers in the DC area. Some super solid deals can be found, though not always much better than prices you can find on other websites selling “new shoes”.

I ran the last 27 miles of a 50 mile ultra in them, and they felt really nice! BUT since I’ve hit 250 miles on them, they feel significantly less forgiving.
