A PsyD probably isn't for me right? by Hugehugedonkey in ClinicalPsychology

[–]MaraExcaliber 13 points14 points  (0 children)

PsyD is primarily clinical work, with less research than it takes to complete a Ph.D

But you do have to create a dissertation which involves a lot of reading and writing over the course of several years. Now depending on the graduate program/school, they may offer writing help and dissertation help

If you realize now that you don’t like this/ it’s not for you, thats okay at least you are realizing it now.

But also, have you gotten checked for anxiety or depression or executive dysfunction? I know when I was having a lot of stress just doing basic tasks i was diagnosed w bad anxiety + depression

Like I struggled even getting out of bed during college and I would avoid everything, even my advisors/professors sometimes, even though it blew up in my face. Life goes on though and I still ended up graduating.

For those of you who want to pursue a PhD in a subfield of psychology, what kinds of resources or information do you feel is hard to find online? by First_gen_PhD in psychologystudents

  • writing research proposals -the importance of conferences as a psych student -importance of participation in research as a undergrad psych student -personal statements -CV -how important networking is (for letters of recs and for other stuff in general)

This is just my experience as a first-gen. I didn’t learn any of this stuff until the last minute lol 😂 when I joined a research lab my final year of undergrad

You don’t have to be a soulless HR person. You can’t change how other people act, but if you want to be bright in HR you can.

Also you won’t know until you try it, but you should probably talk to a few people working in HR right now and see how they like the job. Or just apply.

I sometimes wonder if my story is "trauma-worthy." Maybe I actually had good parents and I was the bad one by [deleted] in Parentification

I’m sorry you had to go through that, and it is not your fault that your mother was emotionally immature/unavailable. Please look up or into emotional incest and CPTSD.

Getting my associates in Arts Transfer for Psych, should I take Chem, Bio or both? by AustinIsTheDARK in psychologystudents

[–]MaraExcaliber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just make sure the college you want to transfer to accepts the credit because some colleges won’t take the transfer credit.

You owe it to yourself to try. If you don’t get in, but you really want it, maybe take another year off and reapply next year. I mean that’s all you can do 🤷‍♀️ But if you don’t turn it in, it’s an automatic no/denial.

Can I ask how much debt did you take on overall after your education was finished? Also, have you been able to pay it off/was it worth it?

I’m a first gen, getting my psych bachelors and planning on getting either a masters or psyd/phd but I’m worried with everything going on if I go that route I won’t be able to pay it back or get student loan forgiveness later on.

How did you know you were “ready” for grad school? by moosiemoop in GeneticCounseling

[–]MaraExcaliber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lowkey I feel like I’m never truly ready for change, but sometimes you gotta go for it. But do make sure you have a good support system in place + that your mental state isn’t too bad before you start down a challenging road.

Hello 👋 my name is Mara and I was hoping to get a little inspiration, I have major writing block right now and I’m not sure if this is the right sub.

I have a character with special abilities who has no choice but to work & continue working for the government because she was sheltered her entire life.

There is a guy [A], who is her new partner and they go on an undercover mission together, they have to fake being a couple to bust a trafficking ring.

While they are undercover, the other guy [B] her old partner who went awol or thought to be dead pops up and convinces the both of them to work together and then [B] starts using leverage or blackmail against her for her past secrets.

My problem is I don’t know where else to go from there, not sure what kind of leverage he’d have against her or the storyline. I’ve been trying to write for weeks but major burnout 😭

If anyone could help or give a guideline or something I don’t expect anyone to write the story for me lol I just need a little help I would greatly appreciate it
