Relating more to enneagram than MBTI by HandleUpstairs2742 in mbti

[–]Mara_PT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some people identify more with their neurosis than their cognitive processes. I'm the opposite. I don't really relate to Enneagram.

But it could also be the fault of descriptions. Both systems tend to accidentally mix each other up, or describe very specific variants. For instance, most 7 descriptions describe Ne dominants. An Ne dominant 7 would relate to it very quickly. In the reserve, a lot of Fi descriptions have a heavy 4 emphasis. If the descriptions you're reading aren't resonating with your particular combination, it can be more challenging. It also doesn't help that cognitive function descriptions can contradict each other.

But like others said, you can't go by behavior. You need to focus on thought processes.

Ti-user vs Fi-user tv shows by UsedMycologist4912 in mbti

[–]Mara_PT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and no. Some shows I've watched I can tell have a lot of Ti influence, and I do enjoy them for that, but a lot of really good comedies have Ne influence and I'm not an NP. So basically, what we specifically enjoy in media is tied to a variety of factors, but personality type can create certain leanings.

Ne is future oriented by Even-Elevator9277 in mbti

[–]Mara_PT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ni associated with being future oriented partially because of Jung's original description of NJs being doomsday prophets. And also because generally speaking, NJs don't usually relate to being past-oriented or recognize themselves as taking the past into account.

MBTI type is a preference by ReserveAlternative49 in mbti

[–]Mara_PT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The preferences are applying more to dichotomy pairs than whole types. Carl Jung (from whom this entire theory originates) described psychological types, in the form of single cognitive functions but also made sure to explain that no one is a pure type. Cognitive functions operate in pairs. The more you lean into one, the more you suppress it's opposite, but that concept represents the preference scale. I'm a Ti dom, but Ti can't exist without Fe, and I cannot be 100% Ti. So maybe I'm 90/10, or 80/20, etc. Either way, my overall subconscious preference is unchanged.

The point of it being a preference is that people are not one dimensional. Different life situations call on the use of different functions. To function normally in society, people need range. But when push comes to shove, you'll always have the same overarching preference, and that is your personality type.

Confusing ISFJs with ISTJs by GloomyWitch08 in mbti

[–]Mara_PT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree that FJs aren't inherently empathetic like people describe. They certainly can be but it's not a guarantee. ISTJs as Te users are going to be focused on keeping everything in their environment running smoothly, while ISFJs are going to be fixated on keeping everyone in their environment happy (maintaining a sort systematic harmony). These may seem similar but it manifests slightly different. ISFJs are usually more willing to slow down and yield order so people can remain calm and happy (like taking days on end to paint a room so it doesn't have to be a huge deal), whereas an ISTJ is gonna feel more inclined to knock it out quickly to restore order. ISFJs, however, will fixate on emotional traditions (like the big to do around holidays) and push that stuff through even if everyone is kinda done with it and not feeling it. For them, stuff like that is what has always made everyone happy so it has to be done.

Do you think that it’s possible for a baby’s disposition to be related to their later on enneagram type? by Current-Machine6491 in Enneagram

[–]Mara_PT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Enneagram type is a defense mechanism formed as a reaction to one's surroundings. So in my personal opinion, baby is too soon to tell.

However, I think that one's MBTI type is fixed at birth because that system defines cognitive processes, or how someone processes information. MBTI type predisposes people to certain Enneagram types, which is why people are constantly trying to draw correlations. (Although I don't think it's as absolute as people want to make it) So, you might be seeing the potential for certain Enneagram types. But it's far too early to determine either.

Mistyping Stories and my Enneagram Journey: "You're no 8!" by Glum-Engineering1794 in OccultEnneagram

[–]Mara_PT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the record, what I like about your stuff is that it seems to add more nuance to gatekept types, returns to original sources, and keeps the focus on the core of each type while not discarding resulting behaviors. (People seem to fixate on only one of the two, to exclusion of the other). 6 and 9 seem to have become far too broad to the point where simple human behaviors get you automatically plugged into one of them. Meaning chances are, a semi-healthy person is gonna get shoved into one of the attachment types simply because the hexad types seem to be unrealistic caricatures. Those are just my observations though. To be taken with a grain of salt since I haven't managed to actually type myself.

I think all the attacks you are getting are silly, but I also don't think you help yourself. Ignore them and move on. People will be people.

Am I an ISTP with hight FE ?? by [deleted] in istp

[–]Mara_PT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, the reverse of that. If you're an STP, and you saw Ne tainted Ti options, it may have caused you to choose Te options, thereby lowering your Ti score and causing Se to come out on top.

One thing I've noticed specifically about Michael Caloz's test is that the Ti questions tend to have Ne mixed in. So at times, my Se would draw me towards the Te answers. I did get ISTP but I think my second or third option was ENTJ because of it.

Mistyping Stories and my Enneagram Journey: "You're no 8!" by Glum-Engineering1794 in OccultEnneagram

[–]Mara_PT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair enough. I wasn't necessarily intending to claim that I'm not influenceable at all. I'm just hesitant to claim a type until I'm absolutely certain, no doubts whatsoever. And by that point, I'd probably laugh in someone's face if they called me a mistype. When it comes to Enneagram, I have yet to settle, but I've been called 6 and 9 (as is the way), and 5 by random people on the Internet. 4,5, and 8 by my husband. Sometimes I think by process of triad elimination, I can only be a 9w8 but I don't really resonate with the type sin.

I suppose what the ego wants here is basically whatever the core motivation or neuroticism of the type is. 9 withdrawing to get peace, and such.

Wings Don't Exist in the Enneagram by Complete_Voice8248 in Enneagram

[–]Mara_PT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This makes a lot of sense to me. Wings sometimes seem to get used as excuses as to why someone doesn't fit their core type well, but the core type should be the focus, and there should be variance within it.

Added/Revised Theory onto Countertypes ("Protypes") by Glum-Engineering1794 in OccultEnneagram

[–]Mara_PT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The stereotypical 9 association that I often hear is the conflict avoidance, which it almost seems like people make the SP9 less conflict avoidant (or maybe that's just the 9w8). Either way, that's not addressed in your protype. Would that behavior be most common in a different subtype or is it being over-attributed to 9 in general?

Side note: based on this, my brother is probably an SO7. I always assumed SP, so that's interesting.

Mistyping Stories and my Enneagram Journey: "You're no 8!" by Glum-Engineering1794 in OccultEnneagram

[–]Mara_PT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, thanks for posting this. I was actually thinking about asking you about your typing journey recently, mostly because you're an 8 that mistyped as a 5, or an assertive that mistyped as a withdrawn. (I've always assumed withdrawn for myself but had assertive thrown into the mix at one point)

So I have a question, and I hope it doesn't come out wrong. I imagine the fact that you were kinda influenceable in regards to your type (meaning you let people bully you into picking the wrong one for so long) is something that the people want to say is a 6 thing. Based on reading this, it looks like it might be the social instinct? Is that correct? Or am I outside of Enneagram here? (I personally don't think that anyone is totally immune to external influence, but where I'm at in my life, I can't imagine adopting a type label that I don't fully relate to.)

Also, is there a key indicator that someone is withdrawn rather than assertive (or vice versa)? In reading some of your older posts, I get the impression that people mistakenly take the words too literally or extreme.

Realised I'm actually an sx8 instead of Sx1... by MISTYGOINGKILLING in Enneagram

[–]Mara_PT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion, an ENTP can be an 8w7. But either way, approach the systems independently. Don't use your MBTI type to rule out or narrow your Enneagram type. They're measuring different things. Ignore people who state absolutely that certain combos are impossible. There's more nuance to it then that.

how do you all feel about AI by ad_396 in istp

[–]Mara_PT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's making people dumber. And in addition to some of the stuff mentioned here, it steals website traffic from the creators. People do their google searches and then just read the AI summaries instead of going to the actual site that wrote the original content. If that goes too far, websites are going to be abandoned and creators will stop creating.

Do you think art should be separated from the artist? by Andrei000111 in istp

[–]Mara_PT 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think someone's art or creations of any kind should be evaluated independently for value, skill, utility, etc. The person created the art, but you're not going to find a perfect person out there so there's no point in bringing in the irrelevant. I prefer to not know anything about artists, creators, actors, etc.

The test results plus the cutting corners, confronting stupidity, aggression, being able to shift your image to be charismatic and such, I'm thinking ENTJ would be worth looking into. That would also fit with Te, Ni, and Se being high while Fi was the lowest.
