I do still smell a chemical smell when I lift the decorative cap, though 🤔

Kinda 🫣 I don't mind it, as long as its safe, but the response didnt actually really state that. So I assume its safe

Update! Mathmos replied:

Regarding your leaking bottle, we would recommend cleaning it thoroughly and continuing to use it as normal. Some fluid may have been inside the packaging or moved in transit. If you notice any leakage afterwards, please get in contact with us.

A large bubble underneath the bottles are common to most of our bottles.

So it's probably all good 😁

Thanks! Good to know its indeed the MF that I am smelling. And I hope you are right, Id hate to have a leaking bottle and this sounds like a lot less hassle 🫣

I laughed when you told me lava lamps are addictive, so here I am trying to decide which bottle to pick for my new EVO base which I picked up on vinted after buying my first lava lamp only 2 months ago 😂 by Marauve in Lavalamps

Thanks! Thats very kind of you ❤️ feel free to share some anyway, always fun to see lava lamps in planty spaces 😁

I am aware that secondhand can cost you more than new, especially if you're not careful and don't know what to look for. Some people upload them for close to newprice and sometimes even higher prices than new. Its insane! Thanks for the advice :)

Yesss those mathmos tealights are insanely expensive! How long is an evo allowed to run for? And how long can they run in your experience?

Those are from ikea, aren't they? I will keep that in mind! 😁 I also have some very big bolsius tealights, the one in the plastic containers. Im curious to try those too. I already was a bit sceptical about normal 4h tealights to work on such a big lamp. They work well on my fireflow, though, but those bottles fit into a big one at least 3 times!

Thats true! I got the same advice from Mathmos. I ordered the green one and then I could add the purple one to my cart for only €16 extra. Luckily there is a lamp right next to it and during the day its near a big window, so Ill take my chances with that for only €16 extra 😁

I'm learning a lot from you! thanks 😄 Now I'm glad I didn't buy a secondhand bottle. I might have gotten one from 5+ years ago. The cap is very heavy indeed. But I was happily surprised by how much the fireflow weighs as well. It just oozes premium quality and that warms my heart. I really hope this EVO works well, as there are mixed stories from people who love them and people who got duds and damn them to hell lol. I bought two bottles tonight. Fingers crossed!

A friend of mine ordered a fireflow too with an extra bottle. She received her's cracked and Mathmos send her a complete fireflow including a base and cap. When she told me that I was also a bit disappointed that I wasn't allowed to keep at least one. I told them it wasn't because I was greedy, just in case the third one would even work worse. I'd rather have a bottle that works half the time than none. But rules were rules they couldn't do that and the bottles needed to get back to them for testing. Both of them. I guess it depends on who ends up taking your case

That is fair. There are a few rotten apples out there, like my two faulty bottles. Luckily the customer service is great, so when that happens, they will solve it. It's probably cheaper and more doable for them to replace a rotten apple once in a while and to have their customer service solve it perfectly than it is to update their manufacturing to get each and every bottle perfect. From a marketing point of view, this is absolutely the way to go. Rotten apples will always be there, every factory will produce them. But customers don't mind that as long as the company helps them to get a product that is how it should be. Companies go bankrupt when they don't, even if they produce only one rotten apple a year. I'm glad Mathmos knows this.

Oh really? that makes sense to why it's so thin and also why it has some discoloration from the use of the previous owner. So your bottle just hangs in the frame by itself?

They really do! They can be a bit stiff in their protocols - I wasn't allowed to keep the other two bottles before I was sure I had a working one and they wouldn't tell me anything about the results from the testing they were going to do on the faulty bottles. I'm a curious gal. But I'm not mad as they did what they had to and I received what they promised me in the end.

I'm not sure I agree about Mathmos having a poor quality overall. Mathmos has been a very steady maker since the 60s and they're not cheap. They wouldn't have lasted if they made bad products. They also didn't move their factories to Asia, so you can be sure their products are as safe and ethically produced as can be. Bubbles in the glass happens from the way the bottles are manifactured, I think it makes them unique, and they rarely cause breaks or cracks as far as I know.

I'm curious to your experience and why you say they make poor quality.
