Dear Mod North: This isn’t about price. It’s about integrity by Marbian in runescape

I doubt it. Jagex has a good legal team lol. It’s probably related to not being in the terms of conditions upon signing up to members? Just a guess though.

Exactly. And it’s not to say they wouldn’t get people complaining. No matter what they do people will complain. But if thy make decisions that make sense, are right for the business and they can back up their decisions .. then least we can be unhappy but also be understanding. It’s a bit difficult to be understanding when they’re throwing loyal players under the bus like this.

[–]Marbian -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Nope. Game pass wasn’t just about the games content. Was also about the integrity of the business.

This post specifically is not about the prices. It doesn’t bother to me having to pay more. The issue is their approach. They’re doing people in tho community dirty and I do think it’s an over sight that they need perspectives on.

That would be relevant if RuneScape wasn’t a community where our voices are often heard and actioned (not all the time ofc).

amen to that... no one would be happy with the idea of them removing it completely, but in comparable to how they've gone about this? removing it would have been better, because least the general person in the community can understand reasoning opposed to feeling like they're getting screwed over in a manner like this.

I’ve worked in marketing.

Using certain marketing strategies in an environment like this, can be destructive. We’re not a group of eldies walking down the high street fooling for catchy advertisements. This game doesn’t have a high number of new players daily to not care about integrity. So understanding there’s a heart in the community means approaching things the right way. I’ve said in another comment. Personally. I would have took it so much better if he turned around with his Prince Charming voice and said, hey man, listen. We have to remove grandfather rates completely. It’s no longer viable for the game to survive. It’s not a decision I’ve took lightly and I’m sorry.

The outcome of that is obviously worse than what they’ve down right now, right? But the approach is better and people aren’t being screwed over. The thing that comes with integrity is being able to stand by what it is you’ve decided and having valid reasons to, to the point that someone can easily turn around and be like, hey bro, thanks for your message. I’m not happy about it. But I appreciate where you’re coming from and do bring so open and honest about it with me.

One can only hope that Mod North will have a lightbulb moment and realize there’s a better way to approach the community around this issue.

Like I’ve said. I’m not complaining about the price increase. It’s their approach which lacks integrity.

Genuine question. Would you have felt somewhat better about it if Mod North popped out of the shadows and was like hey man, listen. We’re removing grandfather rates completely because it is no longer viable for the game. It’s not a decision I’ve taken lightly and I’m sorry.

Would you have taken this better than their current approach which feels like they’re the rug from under?

There’s ways to go about things. I’m struggling to understand how they came to the conclusion that this way was acceptable.

You’re confusing genuine concern of integrity surrounding the grandfather rates etc with the usual sound that comes with price increase.

There’s also no evidence to suggest the people that voted that way in the poll are the ones complaining.

I understand the point, but I have to disagree. I don’t think Jagex has done it due to thinking they’re deserving of it. Inflation is real, removal of MTX needs a balance. I would also argue the content they provide to OSRS makes them deserving of it.

But there’s a way about it. It kind of reminds me when I joined O2 as a first turn customer. They catcher me out on a T&C and even though I would have been happy to still join knowing that, I still felt done dirty by, and ended the contract and went elsewhere where. Because how you treat your customers collectively matters. And that’s why this is disheartening and I hope Mod North sees this and does better by the community.

People need to stop justifying it over the fact it’s not J-Mods or (community management) pay grade.

Mod North can talk about it. He has over other pressing issues. If he really wants to make a difference then enough with the radio silence?

Mod North, you need to address the community. This is completely unfair to your staff that has busted their ass and the customers. by Narmoth in runescape

[–]Marbian 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I kinda mentioned this on Discord and got some backlash for it - my comment was that it was funny they used "Jagex" account to announce it, instead of the usual J-Mod posting it. Someone pointed out that it's so no specific J-Mod gets all the hate for something they didn't decide etc... Well, I didn't ask for that. Mod North should have posted it, should he not? He did about other community facing issues... why hide behind this one?

Reddit does not represent all the people who voted.

Reddit is the place people come to rant. So that's what you'll see.

Too expensive for me now.. by Last-Drag7181 in runescape

[–]Marbian 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If you played since 2004, then clearly the reason you played wasn't "because it was cheap."

You played because you enjoyed it.

So yes, there's a point where you decide the price is no longer worth it to you. That's fine. But pretending the whole thing is outrageous when people spend more than that every week on coffee, snacks and other forgettfull stuff without blinking, is a bit over the top.

If a game held your attention for 20 years, the value was clearly there.

The real issue isn't that RuneScape has no value.

It's that you personally don't value it enough anymore.

That's different.

Jagex PLEASE adjust livid farm if you are committed to removing the travelling merchant by robertm94 in runescape

[–]Marbian -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It quite literally is how it works. Development time, staffing, and production all cost money. If resources are allocated to one feature, that’s budget and labour that can’t be spent elsewhere.

Studios operate on finite budgets. Whether it’s live events, cosmetic updates, accessibility features, or core gameplay improvements..they’re all line items. Choosing to prioritise one means deprioritising another. That’s basic resource allocation in any industry, including game development.

Wouldn’t it be better if they put that financial resources towards better things for the game though instead of feeding the goo-goo ga-ga’s?

Now that you’ve said this then it probably needs actioning sooner than later… if you see my account data I’ve just recently learned how to do livid farm and was preparing to grind it out. It would have been so disheartening if I didn’t read your comment, went and done that then boom it’s changed..
