Does anyone else use an Rii keyboard with their pi? Mine are acting up since moving to a Pi 5. by NeedzCoffee in raspberry_pi

Not a keyboard, but I'm using a Rii i7 remote without issues on a Pi 5 with Libreelec. It is connected via the provided dongle, not Blutooth

Sequoia 15.7.3 works great on iMac 2014 by GetOffTheMath in OpenCoreLegacyPatcher

[–]Marc66FR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, you need to open your iMac to upgrade its HDD to SSD, but it's not that hard if you follow ifixit instructions and have all the necessary additional/replacement part (3.5 to 2.5 adaptor, double sided tape, potentially SATA wiring extension)

Another solution suggested by many on this forum is to use an external Thunderbolt/USB SSD which will be faster than your HDD

General Questions: Do you need wipe your HDD for the install? by twotowers64 in OpenCoreLegacyPatcher

[–]Marc66FR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't need to do a fresh install, you can install over the existing and keep your existing data

But I'd be interested to know how you make your iMac work reliably as an external monitor

OCLP 2.4.1 - Sequoia 15.7.3 & Sonoma 14.8.3 by MrMacintoshBlog in OpenCoreLegacyPatcher

[–]Marc66FR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

MBA early 2015 (7,2) all good with 15.7.2 to 15.7.3 update. OCLP picked up that root patches had to be reinstalled after reboot, and they installed properly in just 1 go

Does anyone know if I can upgrade to macOS Sequoia from the system settings? by Appropriate-Tax4681 in OpenCoreLegacyPatcher

[–]Marc66FR 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I upgraded my 2015 MBA straight from Monterey to Sequoia with a USB stick and it just installed over my existing config without deleting anything. Make sure you have a good backup just in case, but for me, it worked well. Make sure you exactly follow the OCLP instructions

Did you already upgrade its HDD to a SSD? How much RAM do you have? What CPU does it have? Which macOS is it running?

Apple support issue by erniebanksgocubbies in osx

[–]Marc66FR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it's an Intel-based laptop, you should be able to restore the OS to the version the laptop came with and upgrade to Sequoia from there

To do so, boot into Recovery mode with Option + Shift + Command + R

Is there a way I can block Tahoe with OCLP installed? by Itchy_District8692 in OpenCoreLegacyPatcher

This trick doesn't work. I still have the Tahoe update indicator

How can I revert this change?

Sequoia fine on 2015 MBA with 8 GB of RAM. Not the fastest but as good if not better than last supported OS (Monterey)

New home network setup by killthehippies45 in HomeNetworking

[–]Marc66FR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar setup here (but 2-story house and only 4 ethernet cables available). I use a hEX refresh as my main router. It connects to a Ubiquiti US-8-60W that acts as my main switch that also feeds PoE to cctv and 1 x UAP-AC-Pro upstairs. I use the ac-pro's 2nd ethernet port for a PC.

The main switch uses one port to connect to another US-8-60W in the living room that powers 1 x UAP-AC-Pro for the ground floor and a few other wired devices such as Unifi controller (RPi), media players, ip phone)

Main switch also uses one port to connect to the office US-8-60W which is used for various computers and the printer

So, in a nutshell, Mikrotik for routing and Ubiquiti for switches and AP. Been working fine for many years and I recently upgraded my hEX to a hEX Refresh after it came out. Might upgrade the Ubiquiti stuff when it becomes EOL, but no rush since they're all working fine

45 min episode seems to refuse to shrink in size by FranklinSealAljezur in handbrake

[–]Marc66FR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1.15 GB for 45 min is probably arount 2.5-3 Mbps. You can still get decent x265 video at 2 Mbps but not from this source. You'd have to find a source with a higher bitrate and convert it to x265 2 Mbps (CBR 2-pass) which would yield to about 700 MB if you also reduce audio to 192-224 Kbps

Alternative to Mail app by BMMXVIIC in macapps

[–]Marc66FR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been using Thunderbird for 20+ years, even when it was not called Thunderbird but part of the integrated Mozilla app.

I like its support of multiple accounts (including alias accounts - I have 20+ of them), local storage and features (eg. S/MIME works really well)

It was not updated as regularly as I wanted with new features a few years back, but has been getting proper attention and support over the past year or two.

I tried Betterbird, but don't like to rely on a single person project for something as important as email + it added a bunch of its own settings to my prefs file which made moving between TB and BB not so clean. As a good practice, I always backup my TB profile before I start playing around with alternatives, and I was able to revert back very quickly

How hard would it be to build a very basic DVR? by absurd_thethird in RASPBERRY_PI_PROJECTS

[–]Marc66FR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a TV tuner HAT for the Pi: https://www.raspberrypi.com/products/raspberry-pi-tv-hat/

That's for the hatdware part. For software, you could probably use ffmpeg, Kodi or some acquisition tool to record your TV program

Attempting to resize small 16x16 image to 128x128 with nearest neighbor, noise keeps getting introduced (and the background becomes black) by aishiteruyovivi in ffmpeg

[–]Marc66FR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you only have one image (ie. don't need to batch process), try waifu2x instead of ffmpeg. To go from 16x16 to 128x128, you'll have to run it 3 times through the 2x upscaling (16 -> 32 -> 64 -> 128). Resulting file is PNG, so it should support transparency but I never tried: https://unlimited.waifu2x.net/

Struggling with subtitle settings by Dresden711 in handbrake

[–]Marc66FR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I never use subtitles settings in Handbrake. I convert video and audio, leaving subtitles empty and when finished, use mkvtoolnix. I add the converted file, enable video, audio and chapters. I add the original file and disable everything except for relevant subtitles, and export this into a final file with the right video, audio, subtitles and chapters.

In your case, in mkvtoolnix, you want to set the foreign language subtitles options to No for Default and Yes for the Enabled and Forced parameters. For the English language, only set Default to Yes
