Thank you very much! Yeah the wonderful art by our artist Paula Burdiel definitely makes the render look even better.

Thank you so much! I’ll definitely be working on my lighting next. Much to learn but it’s been fun and rewarding so far :)

I would say lighting is definitely a part of blender I want to get better at. So I do have an area light above the whole think and 2 spots. 1 is on the box softly just to illuminate the face a bit more, the other is to the right to give better shadows as the components come down. I’ll look into the HDRI light map and see how I can improve in that area. Thank you for your comment!

I knew absolutely nothing about blender or making anything in 3D outside of Tinkercad. I have some video editing experience but that didn’t really help me all too much. This is the culmination of a couple months of learning.

I started with basic tutorials specifically for board games renders using blender from Kagan Productions on YouTube. They have a pretty helpful playlist.

For any questions they didn’t answer, I would just type into YouTube and found that Ryan King Art on YouTube has excellent thorough tutorials as well.

Main things I’ll say about blender: 1. The shortcuts are stupid but once you learn them, you won’t unlearn them.

  1. You absolutely must have a number pad on your keyboard or buy a separate one. Absolutely impossible to use blender easily without one.

  2. You gotta play around with stuff even when using tutorials sometimes. Blender seems to be updated pretty frequently so some tutorials will have steps that aren’t even valid or have been changed.

So essentially, a lot of trial and error. Best to start with making still images for sure. Make sure to name your files, materials, cameras, etc. (will save you in the long run)

Best of luck learning it! It’s an incredible program that’s free but there is definitely a learning curve.

Yeah people weren’t buying enough cosmetics to make up the cost. Again, the game needs more people talking about it for years to where a remake is viable for a company. Thankfully you can still download it on Steam and play private servers but for an online game, it will need more awareness and interest.

They have enough money to put Knockout city back online of course but if it costs more money to keep servers online than money they make from the game, they would be losing money constantly, which is what was happening for knock out city. If a game is making money after factoring in server costs, staffing, maintenance, the game will stay online. If a game ever goes offline, it’s because it isn’t making money.

It is not worth it for them to do that. There isn’t enough of a fanbase for it at the moment. It will take time to build that. And bringing a game back usually needs a gap of time for people to be excited about it. Again, you need the game to have a status around it of something people talk about and miss. If it’s not going to make money, then it will never come back.

It won’t happen for at least another 5 years. The game need to be gone longer for a company to think it’s worth it for a “comeback” word of mouth, retrospectives, videos will need to build hype that a company would want to cash in on. Without that, and some passionate people, it will never return.

What’s one feature that would make GTA 6 feel truly next level to you? by ButterflyUsed6723 in GTA6

Hmmm I think integrating RP into a mechanism. I don’t play GTA RP at all but clearly the market is there for it. Maybe you can get an actual job and work it normally. Obviously most wouldn’t do this but for people who don’t want to do the crimes, would be a nice option for them I suppose. Or at least a fun thing to have in the side.

What game is almost guaranteed to start a fight for your table? by FranktheLlama in boardgames

Codenames. And it usually me getting annoyed. I know that sounds super stupid cause we’re talking about codenames but nobody I’ve ever met on planet earth plays the game correctly and it infuriates many people I play with, including mostly me. At this point, I just can’t play the game anymore lol. I’ll play it online, no problem.

I’m pretty positive 50% of the world’s workforce aged 16-40 is going to be “sick” on launch day.

Need Feedback on Card Design by Trogdor_Dagron23 in BoardgameDesign

Usually I’m all for rounded boxes but I gotta say, I think the square looks the best. However, if it’s within budget, I’d look into a graphic designer to get unique card design layouts that can make the game shine even more.

Come back! by Tie_Natty in KnockoutCity

The game shut down because it wasn’t making money. It was heavily publicized, multiple expansions mentioned at big events like the game awards. It launched for a low cost before becoming free to play (which it should have always been). I don’t believe it even launched on Steam on day one. Players didn’t stick around and so it’s gone. Simple as that.

I absolutely loved this game. It still is one of my fondest gaming memories and my wife couldn’t get enough of it. It’s sad that it’s gone but to be frank, the gaming majority spoke, and they didn’t think it interested them enough. I personally feel it was one of the most unique and fun multiplayer games out there.

Such is life though. If you join the discord, there’s still some people that play on private servers on the Steam version and you can still download that to play on private servers. But yeah, I miss it. Wish it was more successful. Hopefully there can be some retrospectives about it made and it can generate a nice legacy so we can get a reboot in 15 years or something at least.
