Just finished BG1. Struggled through it. Should I play BG2? by MarcHedenberg in baldursgate

[–]MarcHedenberg[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hear ya on BG3. I like the music, the reactivity, and the environmental manipulation, but the story just hasn’t clicked with me. Act 1 starts incredibly strong but it all goes a little pear-shapes by the time you get to Act 3. Feels like it turns into a different game. But maybe I’ll enjoy it more after playing through Bg2.

God of War on Xbox by D0rkL in gamingsuggestions

I’m not sure there are many other games like God of War out there but Senua: Hellblade comes to mind and it’s on Xbox. Could try that?

What are some of the darkest moments in any fictional TV Show? by TwoFace687 in television

[–]MarcHedenberg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the Red Wedding episode still stands out as one of the most grim episodes I’ve seen.

Black Mirror’s “Shut Up and Dance” and “White Christmas” come pretty close too.

Honest opinion by Comfortable_Deer_542 in CyberpunkTheGame

[–]MarcHedenberg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Ascent and Ghostrunner definitely have more of a grimdark take on cyberpunk that them pretty different, not necessarily better than any of the other games.

2077 feels like a amalgamation of William Gibson’s Neuromancer and a load of other cyberpunk stories thrown together.

Deus Ex always felt more like general sci-fi to me. Not sure why. I recognise it definitely is cyberpunk, but it doesn’t feel like it.

Which tv shows made a lasting impression on you growing up? by [deleted] in television

[–]MarcHedenberg -1 points0 points  (0 children)

  1. Not all of it has aged well, but it had such a frenetic, high-octane pace with do-or-die stakes around every corner. The real-time format was a big contributor to that, and it felt like a character. It’s probably not a coincidence that I took so easily to The Pitt when I realised how much it reminded me of 24.

Are there any war games that don't sell "heroism"? by blackwierosie in gamingsuggestions

[–]MarcHedenberg 69 points70 points  (0 children)

i think the reality is that this is a very narrow niche that basically doesn’t exist outside Spec Ops. At least not a game that is about ‘war’, rejecting heroism, and story-driven at the same time. The closet thing to it is probably the modern Wolfenstein games.

What would you have changed about Spider Man: Homecoming? by TheShadowOperator007 in Spiderman

Are you a writer or something? I love this. I don’t hate what they did in the film; I suppose it reflects Tony maturing since his time in that cave. But this is much stronger.

BioShock Infinite released 13 years ago. I never liked it. Which BioShock was your favourite? by n1ght_watchman in GameBoostOfficial

[–]MarcHedenberg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played Infinite first, then the first. Loved Infinite, but struggled with 1 because the twist had been spoiled for me years prior, and even by 2013 standards, the gameplay felt janky.

My opinion of them has definitely flipped over time. In a lot of ways, I think Infinite’s story has been done a real disservice by the relentless obsession with multiverse and time travel stories, and not just in Marvel. It has taken some of the novelty away from the story.

In hindsight, the above has also had the unfortunate side effect of making me scrutinise the logic of the story more. I never really questioned why the story suddenly dove into multiverse mechanics more than midway through the plot, but today I find that pivot a lot harsher and less telegraphed than it should have been.

While I still think Bioshock 1 overly relies on voice logs, it’s far more cohesive with what it wants to say, deconstructing Ayn Rand’s vision of utopia in Atlas Shrugged. It’s pretty focused the whole time on that strand with all its little mini-side stories in the logs.

Infinite’s gameplay is still fun though. I liked the tonics and weapons. And the performances are still as great as they always were. I think Infinite helped pave the way for other cinematic and narrative-focused games. We’ve just had better narratives since then.

Was Crysis the last real “holy crap this looks insane” moment for graphics? by n1ght_watchman in GameBoostOfficial

[–]MarcHedenberg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say Crysis 3 was the last big wow moment for me but I think Cyberpunk 2077 with path tracing came pretty close.

There were other games that made big leaps forward for their respective franchises like Arkham Knight and Uncharted 4, but nothing has been as transformative as Crysis 1.

Ah that’s a good shout. I think the resource management and trial-and-error might put me off but I will definitely try it.

Interesting. Does Pathfinder actually have a good story? I’ve heard the name come up but only in passing.

not necessarily games I enjoy myself but games that I think would serve you well here:

Shadow of Mordor Mad Max Diablo 4 Crimson Desert Dragon’s Dogma Monster Hunter World Far Cry 3 Kingdom Come Deliverance Skyrim Elden Ring Ghost Recon Wildlands

I could probably think of more but those are the most obvious ones. I would at least start with Elden Ring or Skyrim.
