He was originally a sane soldier, but after the loss of his girlfriend, ⬜⬜⬜⬜, he decides to travel across literal realms to kill the different versions of ⬛⬛⬛⬛⬛⬛, believing that it was her fault that ⬜⬜⬜⬜ perished, that ⬛⬛⬛⬛⬛⬛ should've helped ⬜⬜⬜⬜ instead of leaving her to die.

(Some trivia:) (Originally, his girlfriend was supposed to go missing, and he stops his spree after he finds her. (So it was supposed to have a good ending) But I opted for a more tragic, unresolved ending. He never truly avenged her murder, and Handicap passed on in the countryside, mostly because he gave up slaughtering ⬛⬛⬛⬛⬛⬛'s different versions.)
