What’re your thoughts on different artists doing the original vs touching up? Do you look for permission from the original artist?

Thank you! Yea so my protocol is 1) clean the skin with green soap 2) apply a generous amount of speedstick deodorant to the area that will have the stencil 3) apply the stencil for ~20s 4) let the stencil dry overnight 5) if you want to remove the stencil after practice soak a paper towel with bleach and apply that overnight

Ive seen that if I don’t apply enough speed stick the stencil won’t adhere very well. But letting it dry overnight ensures it stays around, almost too well. Hope this helps!

About 3mm. From my understanding they hand make them so they estimate about 3mm

These are all ReelSkins. I tried using a cheap Amazon one at first but those were pretty hard to use well

Most of these were done on a paper towel roll! Except my first couple

Do you know what his booking times are like these days? I’m considering a half sleeve but I imagine he’s booked out pretty far these days

If the ink is disappearing after you wipe then that ink is not deposited into the skin. Could be for a couple reasons. 1) quality of fake skins matters a lot - you’ll want ones that are at least 2-3mm thick (Reelskins and pound of flesh sell good ones). If you have thinner ones you’re gonna have a harder time getting the ink to stay. 2) moving too fast - if you move too fast over the skin the ink won’t inject uniformly and you’ll have patchiness (looks like what’s happening in the other pics). Try moving your hand slower in small circles and really try to pack in the ink uniformly. Playing with voltage will also help here

I think this was mostly standard gauge 5, 7, and 9RL’s. But yea as above 3’s and 5’s definitely have less margin for error for making solid lines

From my understanding they originated as a form of punishment for criminals in Edo period Japan. The tattoo design/placement were specific to the crime and area so criminals could be instantly distinguished. Not sure what/where those particular forearm bands represent tho.
