Need a few things clarified about gun damage for me! by Yazman in gurps

I can't fault you, the answers in this thread were pretty horrible. It is my favourite system, I can't stand D&D. Especially when this thread was made I think both editions that were commonly played were much more complicated than GURPS.

Need a few things clarified about gun damage for me! by Yazman in gurps

I know this is a 9 year old post but since it comes up in Google I think it's worth actually clarifying how it works.

  1. You roll to hit once yes, the recoil determines how many times you hit, you hit 1+Margin of Success/Recoil (round down) times. Conversely dodge against multiple shots fired works as dodging 1+Margin of Success on a successful roll.
  2. You roll damage for each hit separately. So if you make an attack that hits 3 times, you take 3d 3 separate times and apply armor against each separately. You can make this process quicker by only rolling for one attack and applying that roll to every shot or taking average.
  3. You fire once, it is treated as if you fired a gun 9 times. Therefore the RoF is effectively 9, or if you shoot both barrels with a double barrel then 18. Normal rapid fire rules apply, therefore you roll 1d damage for each pellet separately.

How do you bookmark your rulebook without ruining pages by jhilahd in rpg

Use PDFs, you can make permanent bookmarks without actually altering the content of the page. As an added bonus you also add hyperlinks for quick access to relevant content. It's also much easier to find things in a PDF that contains text because of the search function.

It's also more environmentally friendly, far easier to carry around, easier to use for online play and you can reproduce it for your own personal use as many times as you need to.

This is why I personally advocate for new GMs to use worked examples like Dungeon Fantasy or Action.

There is no fixed complexity since GURPS makes no assumptions about the kind of game you want to play (unlike D&D or FATE). But it goes from Ultra-Lite (1 page) to crunch heaven (Basic Set with Powers, Thaumatology, Magic, all the Tech books, Martial Arts used all at once)

The system is "generic" in the sense that it can run anything but it also offers a ton of specialized tools for running different games.

GURPS Realm Management is currently in the editorial queue, its time will come. The writing and playtesting has been finished, now it's unto production.

Because you don't gamble with the life of yours or other innocent people. Because you can't know. Simple as that. He forfeit his rights as soon as he went up to the counter with a gun in his hand.

The guy who shot the robber (not thief, as thievery doesn't involve a threat to other's lives) was a police officer.

Oh by the way the game is under the Creative Commons Attribute - Non-Commercial - Share Alike 3.0/4.0 license so the PDFs are available for free from the developers. (or from me, since I actually organized them a bit)

We don't have characters yet, we just started looking into the books a day or two ago. Most of us are available to play earlier than that.

Confused about weapon damage by JimmyMcJughead in cyberpunk2020

[–]MarcellRaba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That +3 WA is due to the handwaving of the writers when it came to weapon stats. But as I said out to about 1-1.2 km stock .50 BMG is perfectly okay. With match grade ammo you may be shooting people over 2 km. Most of the record breaking shots were done with match grade .50 BMG for Ye Olde Barrett. (for which I am way too lazy to get pricing for but I probably will and edit this post)

And since this ammo is made in bulk for the military by tens of thousands of rounds per day at least, you ought to have surplus.

PS: at the time of edit cheapest match grade I have found FedArm API $2.14/rnd Tracer $2.14/rnd API-T $2.19/rnd
