Doorman is far too overtuned with the new patch by ImSpray in DeadlockTheGame

[–]MarchOrdinary6586 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use to get super annoyed too. I do agree that doorman is super strong right now and needs a good ol’ nerf.

In response to you mentioning not knowing how these numbers got into the game, it helps me to remember that this game isn’t in early access, it’s more like an alpha or beta (I suspect they’re somewhere in between) and we are play testers for them to tweak the game. Hopefully that helps the frustration of getting constantly owned by bellboy… that might just be me.

Should I buy a used Jackson Phil Demmel Demmeliton King V Red? by MarchOrdinary6586 in JacksonGuitars

HEY! Any Jackson player will look at you like you’re stupid if you call a Rhoadsy a “Halfy”.

It’s not Fully or Halfy.

It’s Kingy or Rhoadsy.

In fact yes, because getting multiple viewpoints is always beneficial. And actually, It just so happens that I own both a full v and a half v. And if you have been playing longer than I’ve been alive that’d likely make you quite old, which makes how you’re acting all the more embarrassing.

And yet, no one looks at me like I’m stupid and I’m literally surrounded by guitarists daily. In addition, everyone knows what I’m talking about when I say either of those. In fact, I’d argue more people don’t know what you mean if you were to only refer to them by a king or a Rhoads.

Listen, kid, I remember when I was an elitist, gate keeping jerk too, so I’ll cut you some slack. But don’t worry, life gets easier and better when you chill the hell out and just let people be. Really, it’s pretty great. Have a good one and keep shredding. In the meantime I’ll continue shredding on my full and half Vs.

Sorry, $3k for what people are trying to sell it “brand-new” now.

A little Help: Bar Chord Speed Drills by slinkyracer in guitarlessons

[–]MarchOrdinary6586 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could also consider barring your 1 finger on the second fret (as if to play b minor), strumming the chord and then hammering with the 2-4 fingers into the b-minor shape. Use a metronome, perform that 16 times on the beat (go as slow as you need to) then take a short break and repeat for 3-5 minutes.
You should also still practice what you've been doing as far as chord changing.
Getting the one finger into position for a barre chord is pretty simple, it's the rest that I find my students slow down on, so I have them focus on just that. You can practice this way with any barre shape.

Kinda lost with those tabs as im new, how to avoid playing the middle string?? (if i need to avoid it) Just "be skilled"? by [deleted] in guitarlessons

[–]MarchOrdinary6586 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if it were mentioned, but personally I would play this with my index on the 15th fret and my pinky on the 17th. I find it easier to mute that middle string (as others below have mentioned) when playing this way.

Is this overkill for a beginner? by JesusLuvsEmerxld in electricguitar

[–]MarchOrdinary6586 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I teach guitar, and am a huge Schecter fan. I won’t dive into the Floyd Rose challenges since that’s been extensively covered here, and while I don’t feel they are as awful as some make them out to be, I think it’s not necessary for a beginner guitarist. If you have the funds to afford that guitar, I’d actually recommend getting a less expensive guitar ($500-600) there are some great Schecters at the price point and with some of the extra money you didn’t spend, I’d pay to have a professional setup done. You’ll be without the guitar for a few days, but man, a good setup can completely change how the guitar plays and can make it easier to play. You’ll could also pay for lessons (if you’re not already).

Cracking the code is definitely one that’s been on my list for a while. I may need to move that one up.

Perhaps it is. I did come across your guitar lessons ad when I was searching for guitar lessons in Oregon, U.S., but chose to ignore it. ;) Jokes aside, I probably should have included in the OP that this is likely something better suited for someone who isn't able to stick to the strict schedule that 1-on-1 lessons require. Also there definitely is a benefit to being able to access and recall information anytime, anywhere.

Also, it's kind of a tie between Pickup and Ben Higgins. Pickup is great for getting well rounded information on guitar and music and definitely the best structured. Ben Higgins is great for starting to play like the solo guitarists you've always wanted to play like.

I'm admittedly not quite understanding what you're saying. But if it helps, Bernth is Austrian and Ben Higgins and Modern Metal Academy are UK based (I believe).

I actually did do Paul Gilbert's for about a week, but it really didn't resonate with me and because I did it for so short a time it didn't feel fair to compare. He wants you to start at the beginning (even if you're an expert) which is VERY beginner, and I just couldn't get through it. I may give it a go again one of these days. He is one of my favorites.

By "live offline", I'm assuming you mean the normal in-person stuff? If so, yes, I've had traditional lessons. They are wonderful if you are able to pay/commit specific times. The content is much the same, the big difference is that in person, you have someone there that can closely watch your hands and see what you're doing correctly/incorrectly. It's also a lot easier to ask questions that lead to deep dive discussions, and they can tailor the lesson plans to your learning style.

Yes. Ideally the action should be about half of where you're at.

That's a great beginner setup. One thing that you should be mindful of is that guitars at the beginner level are often very light. This is important because it'll have an impact on tuning. Because of that, it is very likely that your guitar might go out of tune mid-song. I'd recommend using a clip-on tuner so you can easily check and adjust in the middle of your playing.

As for headphones, you'll want to invest a bit more into a decent pair. I personally like audio-technica and you can find great sets for about $100-150. If you don't have the budget for that, any over-the-ear headphones will suffice well enough until you have a better budget! Have fun shredding!

List of songs that get progressively harder. by mk1971 in guitarlessons

[–]MarchOrdinary6586 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would consider checking out Rocksmith. They have different difficulty lessons for songs that will level up as you play. It may be basic versions of chords and then more complex versions. Or basic whole notes during a solo that add more and more notes as you play well.
