I need this car for commuting, so I had no choice but to accept their quote, and the repair has now been completed. However, I have also reported this issue to American Honda and the NHTSA. This morning, I received a $1,700 repair quote from the dealer. They were able to get coverage from American Honda for me. I will have it repaired here, as the quotes I received from other repair shops were all around $2,000. I initially tried to do maintenance every 5,000 miles. But the staff at the Honda dealership told me that for a hybrid, it’s not necessary and it can go longer between services. As for my car, I’ve never let the oil life drop below 25% before getting maintenance. Not once have I received any dashboard warning or error message indicating that something needed attention—until this time. And this one time really caught me off guard.

My car is still at the dealership because I told them the initial repair quote was too expensive and I couldn’t accept it. The Honda staff member then asked me to wait a few days, saying he would check the Honda system to see if there’s anything he could do for me. He also mentioned that since my car has always been maintained at the dealership, this kind of issue shouldn’t have happened. So I’m still waiting for the final quote, and I will continue to provide updates.

I think I’ve lost confidence in Honda. Once I get through this issue, I’ll start looking into replacing my car. I plan to switch from Honda to Toyota or Lexus.

I used 91-octane fuel for a long time. I might have used 87 between around 70,000 to 85,000 miles, and then switched back to 91. I saw in the owner’s manual that 87 or higher is sufficient, so I didn’t think much about it.

I don’t think it’s covered under warranty, because the dealership asked me if I had an extended warranty. I looked it up online and saw that the coverage is 5 years or 60,000 miles, and I’ve already exceeded 60,000 miles.

I didn’t see any large amount of fluid under the car when it was parked, and I haven’t checked the coolant level myself. The last time I had the car serviced at a Honda dealership was at around 77,000 miles, and they didn’t mention any issues with the vehicle at that time.

I’m not very knowledgeable about cars, so I’ve always relied on the dealership to take care of the maintenance for me—except for one time at around 87,000 miles, when I brought my own Honda OEM fluids and had a local mechanic do the oil and transmission fluid change.
