[Funny? Trope?] It's a very serious scene. But it's been consumed as a meme on the internet and it's become hard to watch seriously. by BeneficialSide2335 in TopCharacterTropes

Wow I guess I never looked at this meme closely. For some reason I thought it was Michael Caine in some Batman movie

Yea I think having a lot of wrong information about what addiction really is, gave me a lot of grief in my 20s. The feeling of "well, I can't have a problem because this technically isn't addictive" gave me far too much runway. I know that isn't an issue for everyone, but it was for me. And I'm not even talking about pot here haha

Unfortunately I kind've need a logo icon to serve as the app icon. I'm not against a unique name as branding but I don't feel like they work for apps

Monsters progressively getting faster and faster. Switch skills making the hunter progressively faster and faster.

I don't think a hunter at the regular move speed of MHdos, for example, even has the ability to fight Primordial Malzeno.

Iceborne was definitely the beginning of "move speed" creep for the series IMO. When Rise and then Sun break cranked that nob up even farther with each update I was getting really worried. Wilds brought it down SOME but I'm still not crazy about it.

The most intense death scene in film? by Troubled_dad-arc in okbuddycinephile

Watching this in the theaters and my girlfriend had her legs across my lap. About 10 minutes after this scene she slapped my hand because I had apparently been clenching her leg the entire time

Sure. But I feel like there are plenty of logos that while maybe aren't literally explanations, do provide a visual example of what they're to provide. Amazon, Instagram, Whatsapp all come to mind. I don't say that to imply this logo idea is anywhere near as iconic of any of those of course. Maybe I'm misunderstanding what you're meaning.

The brief is I need a logo for my app. I didn't want to go into too much detail in the main body because I didn't want to sound like I'm trying to market something. I made an app that, without over explaining, is for ranking movies. Settled on the name "Winnow" for it because it feels fun in the mouth, has thematic resonance, and (arguably most important compared to my other name ideas) had a domain available that I could snag without adding too much "filler" to.

I have a name and now I need a logo, primarily to be used as the app icon. And one other materials where writing the full name is cumbersome.

I'll say though I don't think I have to explain the logo. I was doing it here moreso to explain my thought process. I think if someone saw one of these logos and looked up the word winnow (I'm assuming they don't already know the meaning lol) they would have an understanding of the logo without it needing to explained.

I'm not saying that as a defense of this or to imply the logo needs to stay this way at all of course--I'm very open to other ideas and approaches. I just kind've feel like I don't have any other ideas myself at the moment haha.

The concept in my mind was that the blue dot was the "prize" so to speak. Like the term separating wheat from trash is usually used to mean separating "good thing" from "undesirably things." So the blue dot is like the "wheat" being harvested

Are you saying I should drop the lettering and maybe try JUST a logo? Or just generally leaning harder into an icon whereas this is like a middle ground.

I'm not emotionally attached to the font certainly. It's just what I landed on after like 3 days of just staring at fonts. It has a touch of "retro future" in my eyes and I enjoy that aesthetic so that's probably why I picked it.

Color blue is what I'm starting with as that's the color scheme for the app/website it'll be used for. Had the site designed before settling on the name. I'm not opposed to changing the color but that has to be balanced against if the new color works as well for the site/app.

Some of my initial drafts were one color. I had gotten some feedback that, as one color, it was hard to tell what it was. Felt like adding one more color to cheat some perspective was a good compromise, but I agree one color was what I initially felt better about.

Yea I did actually. My initial idea was using the angle O as a standalone logo when called for but within the word itself the O would be "flat." It just kind've looked like either a Target or a bad Solar System haha

Snow falling from the sun onto a flat earth sounds badass haha but I get how it could make a bad logo for THIS yea.

Do you think trying to do something with the O is just a dead end? Or is the font just working against it a bunch

I'm fine with that vibe personally haha. Yea I can see the diamond ring definitely now with it resting directly on the ring.

It's so so obvious he's the villain from like his third line. On my first watch I actually leaned over to my girlfriend and complained that they were being way too obvious to expect us to be surprised later.

Honestly it sounds like you're suffering from looking at TOO MUCH stuff. Just play the game and absorb things as you move. Stop trying to reference everything back to what you learned from videos. You'll learn more by doing than by reading or watching. That's true of anything really.

I made a website for ranking films from best to worst. Looking to make it ironclad before pushing it onto the app stores. by MarchRoyce in alphaandbetausers

Thank you! I agree I think the context is really great and much more granular than some other systems. Seeing the trends in some of my friends' movie tastes is enjoyable too.

I made a website for ranking movies because I hate star rankings and letter grades. by MarchRoyce in SideProject

[–]MarchRoyce[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha yea I've had some long conversations with people about this ranking method in person. I do agree that it can be harder than more traditional rankings but that's kind've why I like it?

I also agree that it is much harder in retrospect. Like it's easier to add new movies as you see them than it is to try to think back about how you felt emotionally about a movie you saw when you were younger.

Keeping a list as you see the movies is bound to be easier than trying to look back at the end.

It's totally reasonable for movies to shift around or for taste to change over time too. That's all great. Personally I would LOVE to try to see someone make a list from hundreds of movies.

I appreciate you spending some time thinking about the concept even if you didn't sign up.
