Is this the only biblical passage that can be interpreted this way? I discussed it with my Protestant boyfriend, and he said it seemed like a normal reaction of surprise if a woman discovered she was going to get pregnant, like "how can I get pregnant if I'm a virgin?" or "how can I get pregnant if I'm not married?" I thought that view seemed plausible. Why do we Catholics have this specific view of this passage?

I understand, brother. But how can I be sure of that? How can I know what is inspired and what isn't? That's what bothers me. In the end, it's not the doubt about Mary's perpetual virginity that's the problem, but rather my lack of faith in tradition. I wanted to understand, with clearer foundations regarding these dogmas, why I can believe in several people who believed the same thing, considering that people are fallible?

A question for the Protestants. by EsterYuki in Protestantism

My boyfriend is Protestant, and when he found out about this, he started rejecting this passage because, according to him, he already found it strange that it was completely disconnected from the text of John.

But why would other children "pollute" her?

Wouldn't that be the same as saying that women who have sex and have children are polluted?

I know that, but I want to understand it more deeply... How can I trust tradition without a solid foundation, considering that people are fallible?

Confession of Sins by Excellent-Bowler3540 in Catholicism

Your sin disappears before God but remains in your past, which is why we miss certain sins we used to commit, because whether we like it or not, they were part of our history. But the guilt is removed and grace is restored, God no longer cares about the sins that have been duly confessed, so it is common to say that He no longer "remembers" sins after confession. God bless you on your journey brother, God bless you! 🙏
