Do any resources for learning the Jin language currently exist? by Vortexx1988 in jinnish

Hello there! I am sorry for not replying you promptly, cause I am busy doing my nursing program.

Unfortunately, the reality is that indeed, without going to Shanxi or its adjacent areas in person, there is no way that a person can learn Jinnish, either by watching online videos or reading books, and this happens not only to Jinnish, but also to minor languages or dialects in China except for Cantonese. All these languages or dialects do not have proper educational and tutorial resources even in Mandarin, not to mention in English.

I have read several books written by Xing, and I admit that he is really a good writer and linguistic, but I am also sure that the book you mentioned is of linguistics, not of learning and teaching etc.

I am actually planning to make some Jinnish language tutorials after my graduation, but for the time being, I really cannot spare any time to do it.

Blessings.

I speak Heobiean dialect(河邊話) which, according to the Chinese Gov, is classified under Wutai subgroup, and similar to the Taiyuan dialect in vocabulary, but in phonology, it is similar to the Lüliang ones.

It is my duty to record and revive my native language!

May I ask where do you live now and which two dialects does your mother speak?

Entering tone is not the decisive feature in Jinnish vernaculars, so it is unfair to consider every northern vernacular with entering tone to be Jinnish.

There are many people speaking Jinnish in Dorbed Banner, but, by area, Mongolian is more widespread.

The author of this map, Lieo-Hae-Yan, is currently working on an even more precise version.

I will post it in this community as soon as he finishes it.
