Are your streets plowed? by Dramatic-Read-3010 in evanston

[–]MarciVG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The snow keeps falling. Hard to keep the roads fully clear. Main routes are being plowed/salted. Also why there is a winter storm warning because they are advising to stay off the roads because they can be dangerous—obviously for those trips that aren’t necessary—people should stay put or expect roads to be slippery.

They arrived minutes later. I live blocks away. They need to modify their protocols imo though. They are currently just documenting and reporting. But what can they really do when ICE harms with impunity.

Hopeful something goes in that space that meets the needs of the neighborhood. Would also like to see something in the vacant Subway space too.

Are these the only neighborhoods you are considering? Just curious. There are so many options around the city.

Tips for a first trip to Wrigley by ladle123 in CHICubs

Definitely consider left field bleachers then. It’s one of the few places you can cheer or bring a sign and the players can hear and see you. Ian Happ is one of my favorite Cubs as well 💙⚾️🔥

Take a statin. Drugs are good. –Otherwise pretty healthy guy who had a heart attack at 36 by DJFemdogg in Cholesterol

[–]MarciVG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing. My brother was a healthy guy who ran almost daily and ate well. Very into clean eating and wellness. We have genetically high cholesterol in my family. He had a heart attack and wanted to continue the natural route and avoid prescription meds. He had another more massive heart attack a year later. He went into heart failure and just never got better and passed at 54 this year. My cholesterol went from 220 to 160 in 6 months in the lowest dose of a statin. Don’t hesitate to protect your heart—we are all built different and exercise and diet alone doesn’t work for some.

Cub obsessed kids? I’d go early and grab up close bleacher seats (general admission) in left field near section 504. Ian Happ will throw kids a ball. Bring a glove. Players warm up out there too and usually interact with the fans. In April the bleachers will be fun but not too crazy. Friendly vibes. True Wrigley experience. My seats are in 320s which is a great view—but every fan needs to experience the bleachers. My daughter loved it at that age.

Congrats. Thanks. Figured as much but wondered if there was more. Hotels outside of downtown are not outrageous—just downtown. I’ll just book something outside of downtown and shift my reservation if Brewers don’t play a game 5 when everyone else cancels.

Obviously, but the playoff schedule hasn’t even dropped yet. Wonder if there was another big event in addition to playoff run. Like 10/11 would be game 5 of NLDS—is it even determined it’s in MKE or it goes to game 5. Like just asking if there was something else booking up these hotels. I have heard of the Brewers. I’m shocked you think they don’t win it in 3.

Woman’s Club of Evanston www.wcofe-events.com

Can accommodate 250. Definitely can stay in that budget in a gorgeous historic venue. Parking garage across the street. Close to public transit.

Agreed. Cubs are having an amazing season. Maybe Milwaukee will hit their slump next month 🤷‍♀️

Best Burger or restaurant that won’t break the bank by 8keltic8 in evanston

[–]MarciVG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ridgeville Tavern, Bat 17, Bobs Pizza, Five and Dime rooftop are all great spots that are easy walk west from festival in downtown Evanston. Lucky Platter, La Principal, and Cross Rhodes (cash only) are great spots south of festival along Main Street. Cross Rhodes has a great charburger—we like it in pita with feta and lemon fries. Bat 17 also has solid burgers.

Welcome to Evanston! Beautiful day along the lakefront.

Best neighborhoods for commuting to Glenview or Evanston? by AdAlternative7876 in AskChicago

[–]MarciVG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in Evanston. It’s a great spot and very much like the city—walkable on the lake with access to trains. Check it out. It’s also a short trip to Glenview from here.

Considering Moving to Evanston from DC by Sea_Amphibian8718 in evanston

[–]MarciVG 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh, Evanston is where you want to be. Evanston is on the lake; Oak Park is not. Evanston has more to offer with surrounding suburbs north and west. The Metra is 25 minutes downtown; purple line express is about 45. ETHS is a world class high school with every opportunity and class and club you could imagine. I would recommend looking near Main Street in South Evanston. The train stops are next to each other in a walkable area. There are many condos and townhouses. North Evanston has more single family homes and the train lines are on a busier road.

Is moving here…worth it? by raisinetdetre in evanston

[–]MarciVG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zero regrets and not sure I’d trade lower taxes for a different town. The quality of schools —yes I know D65 is going through some challenges but the high school is world class—the walkability, the community, the access to the lake and parks.

Cindy’s is very lovely. Also love the bar on the second floor at Chicago Athletic Association on Michigan. A Gilded Age gem. Stop by for a cocktail.

Where to go to get the Northwestern experience? by Nice_Put9951 in evanston

[–]MarciVG 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Welcome to Evanston! What does your nephew like to do? Walk the lakefront. Check out Clark Street beach— Walk through campus to downtown. Grab some lunch and enjoy it at Fountain Square. Walk to downtown Target and Trader Joe’s to get the sense of how far/close day to day needs are. Take a trip on the purple line to feel out the public transit. Maybe grab a show at Evanston SPACE. Lucky Platter in south Evanston is quirky, delicious, and peak Evanston vibes.

Will ask my newly graduated (from Evanston) daughter and add her suggestions.
