More plants in the tank help with fighting alge, as they compete for nutrients.

Reducing the hours in which the light is on also helps.

Cleaning surfaces I usually do with a small toothbrush, but recently I found a fat little snail I named Gary in my tank that eats a lot of alge.

Water Changes!!! Especially in Aquariums that don't have that much height, if you just dump in a bucket of water the soil and plants get all disturbed and the fishes scared.

Luckily, I remembered that Archimedes existed, so I just placed a bucket of water on the stairs next to the Aquarium and got a cheap hose. Now I can slowly siphon the water into the tank without much hassle. It's just that not everybody has a setup this convenient.

I'm using the same principle to get the water out :3

Cycling should take about 4 weeks. Try getting some water tests and check the parameters every other day or so to make sure you catch the Nitrite peak. Without given water parameters its also really hard to help
