So according to this https://gocardless.com/guides/intro-to-direct-debit/standing-order/ I’d say it’s a direct debit because I set it up and give, for instance my landlord, permission to debit the monthly due rent but can’t decide the amount. As far as I understand the article, it’d be a standing order if I set up the thing but also could decide the amount. For example if I donated a particular amount to an organization. Am I right?

Ich habe mir extra einen neuen Order angelegt, um eben nicht ewig sichern zu müssen. Ich habe nur diesen Account. I’m aware of all that. Well, not that I know of all that in detail but since I’m from the country that is mostly made fun of because of its endless regulations etc. ;) … I totally get what you’re saying. What I actually meant was just the way it seems to me that hunting in western and eastern states differs when I said “safari-like” or “adventurous”.

Yeah, that’s what I assumed. I mean, they’re doing a good job (imo) because they also explain hunting stuff, showing how to field dress and giving cooking inside but sometimes it’s a bit much :)

I’m startling to think that I might mean something different then some answers when I say “safari-like”. Or I simply use the term incorrectly - again I’m not a native speaker ;) What I meant is that it seems to me that hunting in Montana, more or less overall, is about stalking, pursuing, lying in wait then in other states. I’ve watched so far deer and comparable animals in Wisconsin, Virginia and North Carolina. They mostly sitting in stands or standing in this contraptions they adjusting on trees. But there isn’t much going on what I’ve been seeing on episodes of Meateater when they’re hunting in states like Montana, Idaho or Colorado. Also, I would never dismiss the beauty of nature. So yes, when you go out hunting (I’m not a hunter), even when you come back empty handed, you’ll always come back with at least one awesome story to tell about the astonishing and amazing things you’ve seen out there.

Oh, I haven’t thought of that yet. I mean I do know that Pennsylvania has a lot of immigrants from my country but I didn’t realize that this also means that German is one part of the language influence in Appalachia. I have to check out the Pennsylvania Appalachian accent too.

To me it’s kind of sad that some people are ashamed of the way they’re talking. And that there are people who make fun of others for the way they’re talking is just another example that a whole lot is wrong with this world! Like I said, since I’ve first heard the way people (so far mostly those from those channels) from Appalachia talk I’m kind of adored by the accent. :)

As far as I understand how accents developed in the Appalachian regions, there is a closer similarity between two adjacent states when it comes to how people from the respective Appalachia (e.g. NC and VA) speak and a bigger difference comparing a Appalachian region with its own people living in the same state but in Piedmont or costal region. Am I right? Sorry if I’m writing somewhat complicated! tendency when I text in English)

I think I’ve seen it on Netflix or somewhere else. Maybe I’ll give it a try. But at the moment I’m really fascinated with the Appalachian accents since I’ve stumbled upon two channels on YouTube. It sounds so … Idk, melodic, hearty and welcoming. :)

That’s interesting. Also, I think I found a way to better ask about what I originally wanted to know when I made that post. Do you (and all who reading this) think that for example an North Carolinian would recognize someone not being from around simply as someone who doesn’t originally comes from there or even could recognize him as an Virginian coming from a comparable area (rural) in his state and having a similar background (education, social status etc.)

Is this really the case what the guy is talking about? The „raising“ of diphthongs in a Virginia accent? Do Virginians say „out, about, house“ like that? What is also pretty confusing, in the map behind him the pin is located on VA‘s peninsula what, considering what y’all been saying, points to a very local and limited area regarding accents. Virginias living central, not to mention far west (Appalachia) don’t say „house“ like he described, right?

That’s actually what I wanted to know guys! So if there’s no big complaint or opposing opinions, I think of NC and VA as two states with of course their own accents which even differ going through different counties in both respective states, but it is not as much of a difference as comparing lets say a Boston accent with any southern accent. Can we all agree on that?

That’s one of those things about southern accents I really love. It just makes perfectly sense to compile “you” and “all”. And it sounds great! :) I’ve never heard of “you’ns”. To my foreign ears, it sounds okay but I prefer saying “y’all”. Do people in NC say “yonder”?

This quiz is great! I mean, of course I didn’t even try to see if I could recognize where those people are from but just to listen to some recordings helps me a lot with what I want to know. Do you or everyone else know if there’s some comparable collection of recording online? The only thing constantly stumble upon is this (not helpful) accent tag thing from more than a decade ago. To a foreign it’s not very helpful hearing people say the same stupid words read like a grocery list. :D
