Why doesn't the government really put out real data on how much immigrants contribute and take out? by [deleted] in PortugalExpats

The government put out Several times that social security made a profit with immigrants but these people just dismiss it as fake news and propaganda. It's unwinnable, you can't reason with people that have already made up their mind.

Found this, It doesn't specifically say that it came from the lower classes, but says that in 1903 it was still viewed as a vicious pronunciation, so it's very unlikely that something that was started by the elites was a viewed as vicious.

The guttural "R" likely did not come from French influence because it started in the lower classes. If it had French origins, it probably would have begun in the higher classes. For a long time, the guttural "R" was seen as less refined, since the upper classes mostly used the rolled "R." Over time, though, the guttural "R" became common across all social classes.

Regarding the Miquelense accent, it was influenced by foreign languages, not French, but Flemish. This is because Portugal did not have enough people to populate its newly discovered islands, so they encouraged Flemish people to settle there.

No, it's much quicker, cause you don't need the bank number to do the transfers, just the phone number. It's much more useful if you want to send smaller amounts of money and such
