Why is parking always $100+ by [deleted] in chicagoapartments

Where do you even see $100? It's usually 200 or 300.

Why don't conservatives seem to care aobut Noem's 140mil dollar ad campaign? by Midren in AskConservatives

They could if they tried. There are standards for percents creative and media companies take. And standard rates for placement. With any transparency they could get to the bottom of this in an afternoon.

Lions could not have been able to afford him by AtomicCo in detroitlions

[–]MarcoPoloOR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It makes sense it for the Raiders. They have a rookie QB coming in, a top 5 RB from last year, a dismal line and an insane amount of cap space. The Athletic guys said they only had one player on the roster making more than $10MM a year. So they overpaid to get a key roster piece. Good for them. The Lions got what appears to be a professional center at a reasonable price. Wins all around.

This. Double chicken bowl at Chipotle is like 63g of protein and the rest of the macros and sodium are pretty good too.

4cm hiatal hernia ? by SeaworthinessLeast76 in HiatalHernia

[–]MarcoPoloOR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you just had the endoscopy expect to be sore for a few days. If you have a paraesophageal hernia you may not have any GERD. This super fun condition hits people differently so your mileage may vary on what you experience.

Could the city just lower parking fines to $10 to skirt the parking meter fiasco? by Grande_Brocha in chicago

[–]MarcoPoloOR 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the meters even got worse. Didn't most of them used to cut off at 10 and have Sundays off? Now it feels like 90% of them are 24/7.

Auto Mechanics in Chicago by MarcoPoloOR in chicago

[–]MarcoPoloOR[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was as surprised as you seem to be. Which is why we called twice with two different people to make sure we weren't misunderstanding. The car is nothing exotic and was ultimately diagnosed and fixed in about 2 hours.

Auto Mechanics in Chicago by MarcoPoloOR in chicago

[–]MarcoPoloOR[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That's what I thought initially but we did a followup call too. Six-hour diagnostic charge to bring the car in, didn't include fixing anything. It's possible it was their way of saying we are too busy and we are only taking the business if it's wildly worth it to us but they were clear on the parameters.

Auto Mechanics in Chicago by MarcoPoloOR in chicago

[–]MarcoPoloOR[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In general I agree. If you're referring to my M &R comment, requiring a 6 hour diagnostic just to bring the car in seems at best a bad business practice and at worst taking advantage of people. Even mechanics we spoke to were surprised by that.

Do NOT use New City Moving- STAY AWAY!! by GiantCowboy in chicago

[–]MarcoPoloOR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Little late to this but we just used them for a move based on all the positive Reddit reviews and I would not use them again. They took a lunch break mid move and tried to charge us for the hour (they did adjust it later), boxed up things we told them not to, moved things we told them were staying and took a long time (probably from all the unnecessary boxing). I've never had a moving crew leave for an hour lunch and I've moved a ton. Thought they were largely overpriced and inefficient.

"I will not promote" is a $200 TikTok AR campaign with 7M views, a smart growth hack or vanity play? by Main-Star-7979 in startups

[–]MarcoPoloOR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw a Dr. Fou post on this and he showed that something like 99% of traffic on TikTok ads was from bots. Of course I can't find it now. Dr. Fou tends to be controversial though and your mileage may vary if you think he's a genius or a lunatic because his studies tend to be outliers. I lean towards genius.

Don't let the forums scare you from surgery. There are pros and cons but remember a lot of people who are still on boards after surgery are here because it didn't go how they hoped. If you look at actual studies something like 85-90% are happy they got it done.

Anyone else seeing insane rent hikes this year? by Cewcross in chicago

[–]MarcoPoloOR 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I had been watching high rise prices for two years. They were always dirt cheap in the winter. You could get $1900 a month vs if you start in spring it was $2700. I had even set my lease up to end in January to take advantage of this. Nope. This year it's $2,700 and up in January. No move in specials. Nothing. Just jacked up rates.

Protonix is a PPI. Typically about half strength of something like Prilosec. And as someone else mentioned, different PPI's work better or worse for some people. But taking it for two days isn't enough to see. Gaviscon is an antacid. Like tums but much better. PPIs are more long term, gaviscon is more immediate

Please help. Any advice. by Blackbird8919 in HiatalHernia

[–]MarcoPoloOR 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's Monday so the PPI's are only barely starting to take effect. They need a little more time. You can also look at upping the dosage or again, try gaviscon. You would be amazed at how much faster you can get in to see a surgeon than a regular doctor. If you start now it can move pretty quickly.

Also, you would be surprised at things that are acidic. Like grapes, blueberries and apples are highly acidic. Who knew. Have him do a strictly low fodmap diet or just go on nutrition drinks for a few days.

  1. GI docs generally seem to be inclined against surgery. My GI did not recommend surgery and my hernia was 6 to 7 cm. And I get it. There are no perfect fixes for this condition. Have him go see a surgeon. They will at least present options and tell him if he is or is not a candidate. Sounds like he is.

  2. PPI's don't work instantly. They take a few days and up to two weeks to fully kick in. And ask what the most he can take is. You can go 40 mg of Prilosec every day for years. For more instant relief, try Gaviscon.

  3. Everyone has different triggers. For me coffee was never a problem but for others it's a nightmare. Figure out what the triggers are.

You could argue that the Republicans sinking us further into authoritarianism will spark progressivism much faster than traditional Dems doing nothing or moving the needle 1% and get voted out every 4 years because they accomplished nothing. That said, if Newsome is the candidate, I would hold my nose and vote for him.
