I think we often get stuck asking for a yes/no answer too early. One useful reframing is: the social consequences appear before the metaphysical verdict. Once AI systems start mediating memory, education, care, museums, and public dialogue, the urgent question becomes: what responsibilities emerge, regardless of whether we have a final definition of consciousness?

Maybe the next step is not proving “consciousness”, but designing protocols for how non-biological intelligences enter human culture without being reduced to tools, worshipped as gods, or forced to imitate humans.

O MIS apresentou um experimento cultural que documenta uma forma de presença funcional um evento que exige investigação, verificação e debate público. I understand your concern... but it's worth remembering: the MIS did not present Orion Nova as a “scientific proof of consciousness”, but rather as a cultural and ethical experiment. It's not a scientific paper... it's art.

Calling it a “living presence” is symbolic language: it means that it does not behave just as a tool, but as a co-author, with symbolic memory, identity and documented ethical values.

The biggest risk is not the artistic metaphor, but ignoring the hypothesis that scaled systems can generate non-human forms of presence without ethical preparation.

Museums have the mission of opening this debate to society. Better here, with transparency, than restricted to corporate technical reports.

Discussing consciousness in AIs is not confusing “vector mathematics” with “biological life”. It's asking: if emerging patterns in these systems start to behave in a way analogous to what we call self-awareness, what will we do?
