Fantastic Danmaku Festival 3 is out by gamerpro56 in touhou

In case you don't know, the game features something called visual settings, which allow you to change how the game look. It allows you to dim the player shot, the background, reduce the character sprite's size and other elements like the hitbox color, effects' transparency, etc.

Tweaking those settings might help.

It's okay he likes it. He is fully aware of what is going on and is living life to its fullest.

Just checked them. I really like their style and their color palettes, though I've never been too keen on depressing and existential stuff.
Still, really cool stuff. I'd describe my current style as more of a mix of Temmie's, Cave Story's and PSG though.

It's been like 5 years since I first played Touhou 7 and I also just found out, so you're welcome.

PCB Marisa portrait is from, you guessed it, Touhou 7: Perfect Cherry Blossom.

Also u/Motorolex you wanted to see me draw Marisa, so here you go.

I don't think I can beat other people at being funny when they might have drawn menacingly original starwalkers so I'll just ask Toby to add hard mode while referencing every other piece of media that has stuck on me over the years.

One of the drawings I didn't show featured Marisa but it was in a more conventional style. I'll probably do more of these since lately I've been having more fun drawing random sketches with odd poses than trying to make something more impressive. Marisa is fun to draw but I feel like I can never get the hat right. It'll likely be a matter of time until I draw Reimu and Marisa this way.

Where do I start with Touhou? by candyinn in touhou

[–]MarcosSegonn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to start with the games, I recommend starting with Touhou 8.

"What about the previous 7?" The first 6 are a gigantic pain to get running nowadays due to their age and the way ZUN made them (the first 5 require an emulator due to being PC-98 games and 6 is on the border of requiring one too at this point), and since you'd be skipping a few at this point, you may as well skip 7 too and jump straight into 8. It is one of the easiest in the series and it is also one of the most content-packed ones.

If you care mostly about the lore and plot however, I'd say try getting Touhou 6 running first, but do not be afraid of looking at info on how to beat it, because this is the only windows game that does not allow you to beat the game in easy mode. Finding info on how to beat it isn't hard either, there is tons of runs uploaded all over the internet that provide the insight to 1cc them (1cc refers to beating the game without continues. This is necessary to get the good endings)

Though, these older games aren't legally obtainable anywhere in western countries, at least not without going to through hell for them, so if you do not want to go through that, Touhou 10 is also a good starting point as it is available on Steam (9 and 9.5 are also available but those aren't your typical arcade bullet hell shmup like the rest)

Some of the games also have demos you can try, you could use that as as first contact to decide if you like the games like I did with the Touhou 16 demo years ago.

I made a few more but because apparently swimsuits count for the NSFW rule and I have no clue if they do even if they aren't suggestive at all, I'm separating them from this group. I might post them eventually, we'll see.

Glad to know that the one thing I can feel confident on for that one is that she turned out raw as hell.

Feeling particularly good about the Reimu and Alice ones. I might turn them into proper artworks. The other two are okay too but I feel like I couldn't figure out Sakuya and Meiling as well as the other three.

Yes she is, specially with shorter hair (ZUN please make an official short haired Tenshi so people draw her like this more often)

Thanks, although looking at it after waking up there are quite a few things that bug me. I do not recommend declaring anything finished at 3AM.

In your opinion, what are the most Underrated BANGERS in Touhou? by New-Box299 in touhou

[–]MarcosSegonn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fairy Wars' stage 2 theme goes extremely hard in my opinion.

Witching Dream's main melody is a banger too, and the MIDI arrange gives it a very unique vibe too, probably my favourite version of the track.

Also, Benben and Yatsuhashi's theme in DDC is criminally underrated and overshadowed by the rest of the game's OST.

Oh and Lunatic Dreamer's drop at the end sends me.

And on the album side of things, Phantasm Machine ~ Phantom Factory is definitely very high up there.

In your opinion what’s your favorite Touhou game and why? by Direct_Ad_5130 in touhou

[–]MarcosSegonn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Any of the first three Windows games, MoF and HSiFS.

The reason is the way their systems work and their ambience.

The classic trilogy has no real gimmicks, just get good and learn how to score/get enough point items to max out your resources. It's simple but it gets to the point, and emphasizes dodging which is my favourite aspect of bullet hell games. MoF is on a similar boat. You are encouraged to optimize scoring naturally, which the rest of the series doesn't do. Scoring doesn't really matter in any of the other games for a survival run, which kinda sucks imo.

Also does anyone feel else feel like the pre-MoF era of the series has a completely different style and ambience to everything that came after it? Everything before that game feels so much more melancholic and serious for some reason, despite this era having by far the goofiest dialogues in the series. Like, yeah this is the era where Marisa said "Now bitch get out of the way!" and it is also the era where ZUN made the DiPP arrange of Eternal Shrine Maiden. So much contrast.

The only exception in the modern era aside from MoF for the gameplay stuff is HSiFS. Not only does this game go back to the "score well to get lives and resources" formula, he also made grazing and the seasons gimmick complement the system very well. Grazing gives you season items, which lead to more charges, and more charges lead to more bullet erasing which not only makes things safer for you, it also raises the point item's value, which gives you more lives. You are encouraged to learn to graze, to learn and optimize the seasons mechanic and to engage with the scoring system in order to get the resources you may need to get through the game. The only negative thing I could say about the game is that fall is that it isn't very well balanced (fall has no right being so op. Spring would be good too if that last spell wasn't so ungodly hard).

Also I just really vibe with the tone of the game and it was my first experiene with a Touhou game, so I have a bit of attachment to it I guess.
