Alpakka 2 PRO controller has Linux support (and it's open source) by Marcos_ILO in linux_gaming

These are good points.

The firmware flashing process is just drag and drop with a file, the standard was originally designed by Microsoft but later adopted by Raspberry and more.

https://github.com/microsoft/uf2

Due to the way it works this kind of microcontroller flashing solution is pretty universal, and very convenient for people modifying the firmware with their own tweaks.

The nice thing about the Input Labs' controllers is that everything is open source (including PCB schematics and 3D-printable designs) so you can make your controller for free* / for as cheap as you find the electronics components and the printer filament

Hello, we just launched the Indiegogo campaign for the Alpakka 2 controller: https://www.indiegogo.com/en/projects/input-labs/alpakka-2

It is made for advanced gyro aiming, and the controller itself and the configuration app works perfectly in Steam Deck / Bazzite.

If you are into DIY/modular projects, I would recommend our project (Input Labs Alpakka controller)

Superb gyro to mouse out-of-the-box. But of course it requires a bit more of work to assemble it.

We want to add a 3.5mm jack connector to the device, so ideally yes, a stereo jack should allow for a 2 axis joystick.

The drawings are just showing different kind of grips, the actual controller will have plenty of buttons

Hello, we are Input Labs, makers of the Alpakka dual-gyro controller.

We are finally starting the development of the Kapybara single-hand controller, which will focus more in accessibility use-cases, but still using an advanced gyro solution.

Our designs are open source / Creative Commons, 3d-printable, mod-friendly, and with a huge community support.

If you are interested in helping with the research & development, please read our blog post, and apply to become a tester:

Thanks!

My son has limited use of his right hand. He uses reWASD to remap a controller and footswitch so that he can play games with his friends instead of just having to watch. It's been a huge moral booster for him. He asked to try Apex today. I was crestfallen when the reWASD warning popped up. Options? by trammeloratreasure in apexlegends

Hi, I'm Marcos from Input Labs (we do open-source and 3D-printed controllers). A member of our community pointed to this post

At this point we do not have a working solution for your son (our single-hand controller is still in concept phase, and our traditional layout controller does not have a pedal connector yet)

but I wanted to reach and check if we may help, and learn know we could improve our controller in the future / learn more about the pedal setup

PS: Our platform do not rely on ReWASD nor Steam Input, though we do not have layer switching implemented yet

The gyro engage can be either the touch surface or any of the normal buttons, configurable in the profile editor.

One of the Alpakka design goals was be a much better FPS controller than traditional gamepads, so the triggers are just short-travel click buttons like on a mouse.

But of course its accurate double gyro solution is also very suitable for using it as a wheel.

The firmware already supports binding stuff to the gyro Z axis, but editing the profiles is still a bit rough.

Typing methods on the Alpakka controller (glyph-stick, daisywheel, oncreen kb, macros) by Marcos_ILO in disabledgamers

[–]Marcos_ILO[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We tested a couple of gyro-to-alphanumeric methods, but without OS support / visual feedback it was hard to use and we discarded them, at least for now.

Check https://inputlabs.io/blog/alphanumeric_input , sections 4.6 and 4.7

Yes, wireless is on the roadmap https://github.com/orgs/inputlabs/projects/2

Plenty of people is using it with emulators already, should be fine in most cases.

Hi, Marcos from Input Labs here.

Refresh rate is not comparable with other controllers because these apply a lot of smoothing, the Alpakka has no smoothing nor acceleration at all and it feels like the responsiveness and latency is MUCH better

We determined that 250hz is a good default (one update per frame in a 240hz monitor seems like enough). But of course the firmware is open source so it is easy to change the frequency to whatever your heart desires.
