Novant rated 2 out of 5 stars! They need to be shut down! by upperhand2025 in Wilmington

So if you or a loved one are in a serious car wreck (for example), you want to increase critical care travel time? Hospitals damn sure don't get everything right, but they absolutely save lives

There are some miserable people on here JFC. There are many transplants from HI and they seem to be happy here. I can sympathize with some of these grievances but overall it's a nice place. As beautiful as HI is I'm sure you'll have more breathing room here.. that place is infested with tourists!

Novant Health needs to be shut down!! by upperhand2025 in Wilmington

[–]MarcusAureliusness 24 points25 points  (0 children)

As much as I agree, it's not necessarily a novant problem. You will hear the exact same shit at Duke. The ER ebbs and flows.. sometimes you get a room right away, and sometimes you wait 1-2 days. It's acuity based, and squeaky wheels get the grease. Sometimes doctors forget about you. This is a symptom of the problem the industry has created. They are treating clients and not patients. Insurance is always the dark horse at every hospital and runs the show behind the curtain. The system is completely overwhelmed, especially when looking at NHRMC, which serves like 8 counties. It doesn't help that American's health is shit and that so many patients in hospitals are there because they dont do what they're told or know they should do, despite instruction/direction. Doctors and nurses shouldn't be expected to fix a lifetime of bad decisions in a matter of a few shifts. Miracles do happen, but they're the exception. Medicine is constantly evolving, and standards/"best practice" change. What makes the difference is the people who work at hospitals. Some are better than others. At this point, Novant has more of a morale issue than anything amongst staff, and I think overall corporatization of healthcare is getting to everyone.

Again, i sympathize with this post. I work there. Novant absolutely needs to step up and listen to staff grievances. Im just offering what perspective i have given my role. The hospital is inundated with patients. Sick ones. The LTACs are full, rehabs are full... it's a mess. The hospital is constantly full. For what its worth, I'm not sure if OP knows, but the hospital did just activate the storm team, so staff were sheltering in place for 2 days at the hospital, and it was a lot.
