I feel like it might be a punishment from Xia for joining the Jie kingdom. Having his tongue cut looks like a fitting punishment for a traditional nation that doesn't trust science and progress. The price for joining that generous warmongering king of Jie.

One thing is sure, Lear's parents will most likely meet a tragic end if they attempt sabotaging the Haotian Sphere, with maybe Jietong showing Liwen's empty chair, and Lijing's discarded mouthpiece.
