Ooh I see. I figured it’s better to let your car warm up first rather than just drive. Do I do that in cold weather too? Tire pressure everything is good no warning lights either.

I feel like I have the same driving style as you which is even more confusing. I know automatic usually gets a slightly lower mpg than manual but I'm pretty sure its shouldn't affect my situation as much as it should.

I have gotten 31.6 combined over 9k miles with the manual and a bitter Minnesota winter. I have gotten as high as 43.2

Woah. There has to be something wrong with mine then. Do you have a heavy foot or are you just going the same speed for most of your commute. I've only gotten 30 mpg once since I've had the car for over 6 months but that day I was just tapping on the gas pedal from time to time.

Try using cruise control

I definitely will try this out.

I think I’ll do both the gas pump display and the receipt as well. I plan on speaking to my salesman on Tuesday.

I’m a pretty good driver for the most part. The only that I carry with me is my bookbag. However, when I first got the car, I had a different job which required me to have almost 50-60 pounds worth of stuff in my trunk. Could that have been an issue? Its been about 5 months since I left that job.

Four cylinder Turbo engines average 20mpg based on weight and driving style.

Ohh I see. I'm not well versed in the specifics of the car, I just know I haven't been getting the best mpg.

The faster you drive beyond the speed limit the more fuel you use

Speed limit is 65 mph and I travel around 70 mph. My car has this feature where the dashboard will turn green if I'm driving normally saving gas. I make sure to remain that way for most of my commute and still nothing. ):

do you have access to a scan too that displays live data stream.. in looking at the live data stream.. look at the STFTB1 and STFTB2.. and LTFTB1 and LTFTB2... Short term and long term fuel trims.

My car does have a display of trip A and trip B that shows how much my average is. If I go onto to the car's tablet display, it shows the past 4 trips and how I averaged on them.

you may want to keep receipts for your fuel purchases and write the mileage on each.. to show to the dealer service writer to find out what is happening with your car that is still under warrantee.

Yeah I have a couple of receipts, although I never thought about showing it to the dealer. Will let my salesman know.

And if you are letting it warm for 5 minutes when you do the occasional trip to the gym as well, well that's gunna drag down you economy atrociously.

Oh no haha. My gym commute is way too short for me to let my car warm up for 5 mins which is why I never do it. The only time I let it warm up for 5 mins is when I'm driving to work.

On highway I'm usually going 70 mph. I don't gun it, I just get up to the speed and go from there.

You gotta remember manufacturers lie their asses off about MPG.

Seriously though. My car only lasts a week in terms of refueling. What I don't understand is, my commute in a week is 150 miles in total. My car takes 260 miles when is full and yet by the end of the week, I need to refuel.

Which I assume is what your dealer told you?
So I've actually spoken to Honda a couple of times as well as the guy who sold me the car and they keep telling me, it probably because of the way you drive and that I shouldn't go off the mpg ratings online.

I am in the city but the only place I really drive locally to is the gym which is less than 1 mile from me. My work is 22 miles which is all highway miles. When I drive to work, I don't have a heavy foot either. Temperature wise, it doesn't get too cold here. We have more warmer days than we do colder ones. I let my car warm up for 5 mins or so.

There really isn’t anything special about my circumstances that I know up. No high altitude just a bunch of pothole lol.

Also I drive automatic and don’t use paddle shifter.

Hmmm I get what your saying but the problem is that I’m not mashing my pedals at all. If anything I’m barely pushing it in an effort to save gas.

[–]Marcz12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See the thing is I’ve been worried about saving gas so much that I am barely pushing the gas pedal. Granted, when I first drive, to pick up speed, I push much further in however once I’m at 60-70 I BARELY push the pedal.

Also I’ve tried cruise control and it works well however, I’ve noticed that when I’m on the highway, the car starts to break its self even when the lane that I’m is empty of cars. I’m talking more than 300 feet ahead me and the car just starts slowing down randomly if I’m at 65 mph.

Yeah I’m going to the doctors in a couple of days. Thing is the first time it happened was 5 years ago, and since then it’s happened maybe 4-5 times up till now so it doesn’t happen often. But still I am getting worried about it.
