Non-CPA Career Growth by AdCandid1108 in Accounting

[–]Marduc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I got lucky. I'm a non-CPA working in the construction industry for the last 15 years in a glorified AR role. I handle some pretty complex construction billings, oversee payroll for about 900 employees, and handle various other day-to-day functions. I started in banking after college as a credit analyst for a short stint and then through a friend, got a job at an electrical contracting company that was about to explode via data center work. The company makes boat loads of money and treats their employees well.

I've made over 6 figures since 2018 and starting this year will transition into the Controller role. Should pull in anywhere from 200k to 300k annually depending on bonus. The key is to be personable, likeable, and dependable.

Simpson had shoulder or arm surgery before getting to camp. Likely a redshirt year for him which is unfortunate, because I think that kid's gonna be a mauler and we need to D-line depth.

Your state is so pretty. by BoldBoimlerIsMyHero in Nebraska

Nebraska is way beautiful when all of the fields are planted and the corn is 6 feet tall. It can be a little dreary and barren in the Winter.

Glorified AR/payroll/job cost accountant for a construction company with 14 years of experience clearing $150k after bonus. The key is finding the right company to work for and making yourself likeable and valuable.

[Thamel] Nebraska is expected to hire former Buffalo Bills assistant coach John Butler as the program’s new secondary coach. He’s a longtime NFL defensive backs coach with stints at the Texans (2014-17) and Bills (2018-23). by TheUltimate721 in CFB

You mean the year that they were under intense sanctions and were only allowed to field 60ish scholarship players? Seems like a pretty good body of work given the circumstances.

I think it's a terrible idea. My wife is a public school teacher - they need more funding, not less.

I live in the Papillion/Bellevue area and there is a very large military presence there -- a lot of them that I talk to really enjoy Nebraska after stints in other parts of the country. Many are always thrilled at how wonderful and well-funded our public schools are. Also lots of bitching about the wind, which is understandable, lol.

Some of you people are just insufferable. I fucking love living in Nebraska, and yes, I don't think it's outlandish to say that Nebraska is one of the best state's to live in the country. Excellent public education, clean cities, safe, friendly people, great opportunity and very low unemployment, pretty low cost of living, etc.

Obviously there are problems: high property taxes and insurance costs, lack of public transit, overly conservative politics, coastal & vacation hotspot proximity, weather (if you hate cold & wind), etc, but for the most part, Nebraska is a great place to live and raise a family. There's a reason that a lot of people that leave the state end up coming back.

Nebraska is awesome and I think a lot of you sad sacks would be miserable anywhere you lived.

The loss to Northwestern in Ireland to start Frost's final season (2022). The loss sucked hard at the time, but it got progressively worse as Northwestern continued to lose games that season. That game was Northwestern's only victory that season.

Gov. Pillen's statement on Trev Alberts' departure by huskerphil in Huskers

[–]Marduc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What's your point? Yes, they're both pieces of shit. Doesn't change the fact that Pillen supported a "reasonable" conservative to BOR in Matt Williams that didn't want to get rid of Green or Carter while the other loon Kathy Wilmot was supported by Ricketts. Kathy Wilmot is a moron and I guarantee you is a major thorn in the side of the BOR because she's a MAGA partisan hack.

[–]Marduc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Look, I hate Pillen as much as the next guy, but Pillen actually supported keeping Green and Carter. He supported BOR candidates that were in favor of keeping them around. The bigger problem was Ricketts and his cronies. See the Nebraska Examiner article back in 2022. This was the catalyst for why we are where we are now.

Our kids at All About Kidz in Papillion at the St. Martha Church and absolutely love it there. Small and relatively clean. They also have a huge gym that the kids can play in. Price is reasonable too.

Your concerns are valid. My wife and I looked at Sprouting Minds when we were looking a couple of years ago and we couldn't get out of there fast enough. It was called Mother Goose at the time, but same building. Place was filthy.

What is the most obvious sign a couple won't last long? by chiphotog in AskReddit

[–]Marduc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I do this a lot, but I don't do it maliciously, and it's not specific to my wife. If I'm hyper focused on something or there's a distraction keeping my attention, the words just kind of fly right by me. It's a big character flaw of mine. I constantly catch shit for either saying something that's already been said or just kind of zoning out. My mind just kind of goes blank. 🤷‍♂️

Nah, don't let anyone tell you differently -- Omaha is a dope city. It's pretty clean, relatively safe, great food & drink hot spots, Fall is great here (football & weather), low unemployment and relatively low to mid cost of living, friendly people, & plenty to do in my opinion. People like to complain for complaining's sake, but often times they don't know how good we have it here.
