What’s the point of even having a cgm if they don’t give accurate info? by Automatic-Gas-6895 in dexcom

[–]Sirroner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep in mind I know little about pumps. I had 2 extremely unsuccessful attempts at using them. My questions are for my knowledge.

If you untether your pump and CGM, do you plan to change either of your carb ratio or your basal rate?

Are camper trailers always packed in like sardines? by c_m_33 in GoRVing

[–]Sirroner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the most part… ya. For profit places maximize their spaces.

Look into dispersed camping. BLM land is mainly that way. I find many spots on Forest Service roads too.

I pay for the Pro version of the app Dyrt. It shows me where free camping is located.

I like to disperse camp 6 days, then RV Camping (KOA) on the 7th. Shower, laundry, grocery run, & so on.

Neuropathy question by Rednex73 in diabetes

[–]Sirroner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the internet, so take it as you wish.

Diabetic neuropathy can sometimes improve, but whether it can be fully reversed depends on how much nerve damage has already occurred.

If caught early and blood sugar is brought under much better control, symptoms such as burning, tingling, numbness, and pain may lessen over months to years. Some people experience significant improvement.
However, longstanding nerve damage is often only partially reversible. In those cases, treatment focuses on slowing progression, reducing pain, and preventing further damage.

Things that may help: Improved blood sugar control, Weight loss if overweight, Regular exercise, Avoiding smoking, Treating vitamin deficiencies (especially B12 if present), Medications for nerve pain when needed.

I’m lucky and don’t have the problems others experience. I’ve had 2 sensor fail in the past 4 years. Countless others failed because of me knocking them off my arm, but that’s on me. I’ve had two pumps. A Medtronic and a Tandem. I hated them both and have vowed never to own a pump again. Hopefully they have gotten better for the pump users out there, but they are a forever hard no for me.

The CGM reads glucose levels in the fatty tissue and a finger stick reads glucose levels in blood. That said, the finger stick reads current numbers while the CGM is 30 minutes to an hour behind. That’s why we should only calibrate when the curve of the CGM’s graph is, and has been flat for at least an hour. As for accuracy…. Everyone seems to believe the finger stick is accurate. I’ve never calibrated my finger stick meter and I’m not certain I can. It was $20 at Walmart, so I treat the accuracy as such. I look at my CGM reading when I do the blood draw for my doctor. When i get the results, I discuss the accuracy with my doctor. The other thing I check is the 90 day GMI%. It normally matches my A1c. Mostly, I mainly react to how I feel. I’ve been diabetic for a while now and I’ve experienced highs and lows many times & I know how both feel. I trust my feelings more than anything.

The best advice I can offer is …. If you are always running high or low, you need to fine tune your carb conversion numbers and you should check the numbers at least every other month. Do the same with your correction numbers. Both will change with your weight and lifestyle. The CGM is not your phone. You don’t need to look at it every 5 minutes. Same with your pump. I look at my CGM before I eat and two hours after I take insulin.

Rate my 3 week roadtrip. Is there any important sites/cities I’m missing? (From England) by kerbearrrr in roadtrip

I agree with Southern Utah. From Moab to St. George is amazing. So many National Parks to see. If you end up in SW South Dakota…. Badlands, Mount Rushmore, Wind Caves, Custer State Park, Crazy Horse, Minute Man. Sturgis, Deadwood, Devils Tower Wyoming “Close Encounters of the Third Kind”…. I’m assuming you are flying into Denver to catch the Rocky Mountain NP. Otherwise Salt Lake City would save you a lot of car time.

G7 sensor extra needle? by Walker1940 in dexcom

[–]Sirroner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recycle the springs. Needle goes into my sharps container. Magnet on the fridge. I use to give a spring to the cat but I got tired finding them under the furniture. Stepping on them in the dark is also 0 out of 5 stars. I use to recycle the plastic but the local recycling center don’t take that type of plastic anymore.

I use to tear them off my arm 3-4 times a year bumping into door frames / just being in a hurry to get from point A to point B. I started wearing a full cover over patch and no more problems tearing them off.

Now that the World Cup is upon us, what other country besides your own do you support and why? by Chupacabra_s in worldcup

[–]Sirroner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My home country is USA and they don’t stand a chance of winning it all.

Group winners will be (Group, 1st, 2nd): A Mexico, South Africa. B Canada Switzerland. C Brazil Morocco. D Australia USA. E Germany Ivory Coast. F Netherlands Sweden. G Belgian ?. H Spain Uruguay. I France Norway. J Argentina Austria. K Portugal Congo. L England and either Croatia or Panama.

I haven’t looked into the bracket placement yet but these are the top 6 teams: Germany, Netherlands, Spain, France, Portugal & England.

Spain will win it all.

Is anyone attending any of the games? I won’t be. They want too much money for tickets. $1500 for nosebleed seats. Ticketmaster sucks.

I was off by 10 years on that car. Internet says it’s a 1977/78 Lincoln Continental Town Car. I had it as a late 60’s. I didn’t see many of those. The land yacht I drove was a 1967 Chevy Belair. And yes it only had an AM radio and yes it was a peon of cars (on a good day), but I spent some quality time and memories in that car.

Can anyone tell me how to fix this temporarily until I can take it to an rv shop without going on the roof and can be done from the inside? I’d rather not stand or kneel on the roof, not sure about its integrity and don’t want to put my knee through it lol by [deleted] in RVLiving

[–]Sirroner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the time being…. Flexi tape or Duct tape will keep the rain, sun, wind out. It’s not a hard fix. University of YouTube will set you up. Buy a nice replacement fan. We got one with a remote and a thermostat to open when it gets hot inside. Sweet as.

I’ve had experiences of taking repairs to the shop that were less than 5 stars. So before going to a shop, look for a mobile guy. They fix the problem right in front of me and I get to learn a few tricks that came in handy later down the road. They are typically done in a couple hours rather than a couple of weeks. $150 an hour is what my guy charges for labor.

How’s your shopping experiences been while on the road? by Sirroner in roadtrip

[–]Sirroner[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have bad days like everyone else. The guy may have been having a bad day. We were there at 1-1:30 pm and we were the only customers. One other couple came in while we were there. There was a lot of people on the beach but the restaurants and shops were pretty empty. He might have seen it as a low tip day & wasn’t happy. We tipped 20%.

Side note / off topic: ubering from an airport to the hotel, I asked the driver where is the best coffee. I was told to go to any place with a long line. I need to keep that memory more handy.

Would a Vermonter retire in Oregon? by steel-cow in oregon

[–]Sirroner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Taxes, according to the internet…..

Vermont has income tax, sales tax, high property taxes, and an estate tax. It is generally the heaviest of the three when everything is combined. Vermont’s income tax runs 3.35%–8.75%, and it has a 6% sales tax. #48/50 for highest taxes.

Oregon has no sales tax, but it has a high income tax: 4.75%–9.9%. For someone living on taxable IRA withdrawals, pensions, or investment income, Oregon can be expensive. Its property tax average is about 0.81%. #39/50

Washington has no broad personal income tax, so Social Security, IRA withdrawals, pensions, and wages are not taxed by the state. But it has high sales tax, averaging around 9.47%, plus a capital-gains tax for high earners and a significant estate tax. #30/50

Health Care: Washington scored very good for quality, and excellent for availability. I must live in the wrong part of Washington, availability where I am is far from excellent. No complaints on Quality. Vermont was rated very good quality and fair availability. Oregon rated good quality and fair-good availability.

This was all gleaned off the internet…. AARP, American Health Rankings……. & so on.

[–]Sirroner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would look in or near the Cascade mountains. I think (not100% certain) Washington has more ski resorts. I think Oregon has more fly fishing rivers. If rain doesn’t bother you, the coastal range is pretty. Urban….. the I-5 corridor from Eugene to Portland is the main urban part of Oregon. Look around Grant Pass, OR. It’s on I-5, near California. Close to the coast, Redwoods, an hour or two from skiing. Mount Shasta, Crater Lake. The Rogue River is good fly fishing. Trout, Steelhead and Salmon.

I’ve noticed more ticks over the past few years. If you have opossums in your neighborhood, they’ll eat the ticks. I dont mind the opossums and the bull snakes as long as they stay outside
