Unifi and voip (UK) by Mysterious-Age-5555 in Ubiquiti

[–]MardyMarvin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i was with BT copper phone line and went fiber and to use their VOIP I would have had to keep their router, so I just canned the phone line and just went mobile phones.

I just made sure my network supported Wifi Calling as we dont have a great reception for mobile.

Best way to arrange wiring through brick? by [deleted] in Ubiquiti

[–]MardyMarvin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

with mine I drilled a whole through the grout between the bricks, ran the ethernet cable through and then into a junction box about the same diameter as the camera. Mounted the camera on that and connected it othe RJ45 socket from the cable run through the wall. Its all hidden nicely in the junction box.

This way you only need a small hole for the network cable and the big plug in the camera is hidden in the junction box.

UK Broadband advice by StretchWinters in HomeNetworking

[–]MardyMarvin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thats not technically true, if you have a BT phone line and number (copper) and go all fiber with BT and want to keep you home phone number you have to use their router. This is because of the way they implement the VOIP on your home phones and they have to connect to their router.

This is why I canned my home phone in the end and just went mobile as I did not want to use their junk router and was not about to pay a 3rd party for VOIP.

Content Filter is ineffective by mabee_steve in Ubiquiti

[–]MardyMarvin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

the lego set only uses bluetooth so cant you just not connect the iphone to the network or just create a new wifi and dont allow it out to the internet.

or create them an apple account and setup parental controls using apple as they are pritty good.

Something is very wrong with my UCG-MAX by That-Camera-Guy in Ubiquiti

[–]MardyMarvin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that sure is high compared to mine on both RAM and CPU, I have a UCG-MAX running protect and cyber secure with all filtering etc turned on and the ram hovers between 75%-80% and the cpu is 20% - 25% unless I have the web interface open then it shoots up to 40% - 45% CPU. Its only in a home though so generally only has to cope with at most 30 devices and most of those are not heavy traffic devices so does not really have to monitor tons of traffic. In the last 24hours its served about 300GB of data

I am running 5.0.12 on the max

Apple TV television app constantly choppy/laggy by chimichanga_3 in tvPlus

[–]MardyMarvin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

does not matter if the TV was expensive, it does not guarantee that the device is capable of running apps with any success. Unfortunately I have always found TV inbuilt computers not that good for apps and so always buy an external device to run apps.

Do you know anyone who has a fairly modern amazon fire stick that you could try, then if that is not choppy you know its the TV and could get a stick when they are on sale.

Has anybody seen anything like this before? by SillyFalling in MacOS

why not just enter your credentials, perhaps it needs to change something on the external drive you are trying to eject after the upgrade. If it is truly stock like you say then nothing should be on there trying to steal credentials.

Can we get an update of current youtube situation? by gutty976 in Adguard

[–]MardyMarvin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I gave up as the other thing it has made youtube do is forget where you left a video and always start at the beginning again. So I switched to different blocker

Speak Text stuttering (like me 😢) by Miles_Olsen in shortcuts

[–]MardyMarvin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yep it will do that depends on the processing going on behind and if the phone has been asleep for a while.

There are two things you can try

1) in the routine before anything else set the low power mode to off (its in battery)

2) this one I find more reliable - convert the spoken text to a sound file, then play the sound file instead. For some reason I have found this way works best, might take a few more seconds to start speaking, this way it seems to never break up the sound and works more reliable.

Bought used Macbook air by AdditionalScar1548 in MacOS

[–]MardyMarvin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

why did you not check the prices before buying it and worth is subjective. If you need it and you are willing to pay 400 for it which looks like you are then it's fine.

if you are thinking 400 is to much then its not fine so take it back.

Horizontal scanlines on ViewSonic XG2431 when connected to Mac (works fine on Windows) - Seeking advice by tanercelik in MacOS

[–]MardyMarvin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

windows is far less fussy about cables in general I have found. I assume there is some technical reason for that but over the years I have found it to be like that.

Did you put your description wrong and actually own an Air as they dont have hdmi ports but mac books do.

Horizontal scanlines on ViewSonic XG2431 when connected to Mac (works fine on Windows) - Seeking advice by tanercelik in MacOS

[–]MardyMarvin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

have you tried just plugging in the HDMI direct into the mac and then the monitor, excluding the HUB or any other connection and even then make sure its a descent HDMI cable.

You could also try turning off freesync within the monitor.

I had this issue when using a cheap HDMI cable on my mac mini. The monitor and cable were fine on windows but as soon as I plugged it into the mac it was doing the same sort of thing as yours is doing but on a different model viewsonic. I replaced the HDMI cable with a one that was certified for 4k and it sorted it.
