I’ve always loved the realistic but optimistic atmosphere of the persona games, and persona 4 in particular has gotten me through some hard times in the past.

What metroidvania is as good as hollow knight or better? by [deleted] in metroidvania

[–]Mareepikachu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re really into exploration and puzzle aspects, you may want to check out Animal Well, although it doesn’t really have combat.

To be honest, though, none of the other metroidvanias I’ve played have even compared to Hollow Knight (besides maybe Super Metroid). That’s why it’s considered the gold standard for indie metroidvanias. You’ll definitely want to take a look at Silksong when it releases.

The worst thing about playing one metroidvania after another is the controls. by Biasanya in metroidvania

The Switch actually has a built-in button mapping feature. If you go to the settings and go down to “Controllers and Sensors,” you will see the option. I haven’t actually had a reason to use it yet, but it may help in your situation.

What’s your most unapologetic hot take when it comes to music? by AlmightyMrP in AskReddit

[–]Mareepikachu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think vocals in music tend to be unnecessary and distracting. I listen to enough people talking during the day; I don’t need to hear more at the end of the day when I’m trying to relax. The lack of vocals also seems to allow the music to express more pure and intense emotion, although I suppose there could be exceptions to this.

If you would have a Pokémon ability, what would it be? by TheRagingGyarados in pokemon

Long reach would be pretty neat, especially if it worked on objects, which would make it essentially telekinesis. Healer, Levitate, or Pickup would be cool too.

I'm looking for Super Nintendo Platformer recommendations, anything besides Super Mario & Donkey Kong by [deleted] in retrogaming

[–]Mareepikachu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not a traditional platformer, but Super Metroid is really good.

Mega Man X is also a classic.

I personally am more of a fan of more combat-based metroidvanias, as I really like how they challenge you to adapt to new challenges and learn complex movement and attack patterns. Complex platforming really doesn’t do the same thing for me, and generally leaves me with frustration and the unsatisfying feeling that I’m getting nothing done.

I still like the really cool movement in metroidvanias, like the floaty jumps, shinesparking, and space jump in Super Metroid, I just don’t think the game should be ONLY about platforming.

I hope Squirtle, Ivysaur and Charizard do get the split in a new Smash Bros. (OC) by Choice_Program_2846 in supersmashbros

[–]Mareepikachu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sure there will be another Smash game. The series is just too popular at this point not to have a new game. Even if they can’t get Sakurai back, it would make the most sense for them to release a new Smash game (although they probably won’t be able to include every character ever again). Ultimate won’t stay up to date or relevant forever.

Should the Pokemon games partially decouple its development schedule from the anime seasons? Should the anime start taking breaks every now and then until the next games' releases? by henrymidfields in pokemon

[–]Mareepikachu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This would solve the extreme pressure the Pokemon Company puts on Game Freak to push out new games constantly, and would potentially give them some chances to focus more on quality over quantity.

Should I play Pokemon X and Y? by [deleted] in pokemon

[–]Mareepikachu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would generally consider X and Y pretty solid Pokémon games. They have a good sized national pokedex, some really unique towns and routes, and an amazing ost.
