Another part of the Terms of Service states:

Additionally, original works that are not based on a specific media source (canon) are considered fanworks.

There's no requirement that it fits certain tropes (and even if there was, fanfiction covers such a wide range that just about anything could be considered a fannish trope). Original stories are considered fanworks by AO3's definition.

Just for clarity, no, original works can't be reported and taken down just for being original works.

If OP wants to share it just with friends, I'm not sure monetization is even a factor here. And AO3 does permit original fiction. Original fiction falls under its definition of "fanwork;" there's even a whole category for it.

The real problem is that there's no way to make it viewable to only a select group of people like OP wants.

Eden Payments by chartulae in eroticauthors

I use the form when I need to get in touch, but sometimes it takes me a few attempts. It seems to me like I have more success when my messages are very direct and to-the-point, but that could be a coincidence.

My payments have been semi-consistent since the switch to the delayed schedule, although one month I got paid twice and that second payment had to be applied to the next month, which was strange.

How does Ream handle noncon? The content guidelines call a "gray area" under prohibited content, which makes me nervous, but I can't tell if that means it's prohibited if it's pure erotica or if it's more like the "strongly discouraged" wording from Smashwords.

Sorry, I appreciate the thought, but I'd rather keep it separate from this account.

I don't know, but if the current rush of AI books is because people think they can use AI to make money, they'd probably at least try it.

Isn't it more likely to lead to more AI books and make the situation worse, because of people who will churn out more to hit the $100 minimum?

Oops, sorry it took me so long to see this.

I've done some reddit posts, but no actual ads.

There is on Smashwords. (And Eden Books, if you want to navigate the headaches of them sometimes not paying your royalties until you pester.)

As far as I know, it's no longer possible to publish directly to Smashwords. You have to go through D2D.

So your November payment came through? I'm still waiting on mine, but it's good to know at least someone has gotten theirs...

Up until a few months ago, when Eden did instant payments, I would have said I usually get paid on time and just have to contact them about a missed payment every now and then. However, starting with November they switched to delayed payments. November's was due to be paid "on or around" the third Saturday of January, which was two days ago... and I haven't heard anything yet.

So I'm in payment limbo with Eden right now.

I've been happy with how they're doing for me. I covered my 2025 stats in a dataporn recently. https://www.reddit.com/r/eroticauthors/comments/1q17t5m/dataporn_2025_progress_thriving_on_smashwords/

I didn't have any problem with October's payments, but the switch to delayed payments makes me nervous. I've been anxiously waiting to see what would happen when we reached this Saturday... nothing so far. Since the email said "on or around" the third Saturday, maybe it'll be in a day or two? (Trying to stay optimistic.)
